Natural host means instant bond? Not so fast

The mag is looking good. I'm sure the clowns will make their way over there eventually.

Yeah I'm surprised especially after they showed interest before treatment, but agree at least mag is looking good.

Thanks.
I was thinking they might be telling me that they want a gig instead. LOL
I might oblige their request if I feel like dealing with QT and being irresponsible with regards to the drought in California. :fun2::fun2::fun2:

Here's a video

Are the clowns an egg laying pair? I would still think the female would travel over even if they were, but their laying sight may be giving them some incentive to stay. Who knows though it is just a thought.

I look at your pictures closely. You obviously have a BTA that the clowns stay in and stay away from the Magnifica. Curious.

I think it's strange that they stay in BTA when there's a natural host present. They are probably liking the size of the BTA and lower flow. The magnifica is sitting right in front of a power head. Other than that I can't really explain their behavior.
I had a Clarkii clown pair two years ago in a smaller size BTA. When I added an XL haddoni they immediately left the BTA and moved to the Haddoni. This made me think that size of available host matters to clowns, at least in captivity.

I'm surprised that they haven't made the switch yet either. I still think they will, but they are obviously very wedded to that BTA. Stubborn little critters, aren't they?

Stubborn indeed. I am not exactly mad about this. Just like you, I am surprised. I might try a gig just for the sake of experimenting when I find the energy to do another treatment as I am sure a new gig will need it.

If you wanted to encourage them, one trick I would be inclined to try, is the flashlight spotlight on the mag as lights are ramping down, I've heard the brighter spot of light may make them curious.

Thanks but I think I'll just let them be. I switched out my Kessils for a non-dimmable ATI fixture. Hence I don't have light ramp up/down. I really like that BTA so I don't mind these foolios hanging out in it :)
I'm a little worried about my diamond tail flasher wrasse that's been swimming too close to both anemones. I really like her and hope she doesn't become an expensive nem lunch.

I moved the BTA towards the back by only one inch a short while ago for more swimming room for the wrasse and it decided to start moving. It's so big I am seriously considering fragging it. In that case the BTA and its clone will be isolated for healing giving the clowns a chance to move to Magnifica.

Took 15 days post-treatment but the clowns just moved in today. Interesting story: my Blenny chased a damsel to death. I fed the dead damsel to the mag yesterday. This morning the anemone regurgitated damsel leftovers. Then an hour later the clowns are in it. Now they are moving between two anemones. I might have to move the BTA closer to the Mag

It is good that the clowns move in.
However, be careful about feeding dead stuff to the anemone. By the time the fish died, a short time later, in the reef environment, the carcass is full of bacterial. Feeding dead fish, full of bacterial, can kill a healthy anemone. In fact, I think your Magnifica regurgitate the dead fish because, after swallow it, the anemone get a "stomach aches" from bad food. Watch him closely, you may need to treat him.

Oh gosh I hope I don't have to treat him but I will definitely keep an eye on it. Thanks Minh. I read that anemones have a hard time with Silversides but thought dead fish was a safe bet. I actually don't target feed this mag at all because I want it to stay around the same size it is now.

They can't make up their mind.

^^^^ That video above is all I need in this hobby. It got me into this and helped stay in it. I don't need $20,000 fish to make me feel satisfied.

Very cool and nice soundtrack too!
It's kind of a neat little experiment going on, seeing how they react to a natural host vs non natural, and wondering what they will do next, will they continue as they are now or develop more permanent residence in the mag.

Thanks Sir
They pretty much settled on the mag. The only time they go in the BTA now is when the clowns see me and think its feeding time. The food used to get thrown in that area.
