Need Advice About Clowns

Hey everyone, I really want to buy a pair of false percula clowns from my LFS. Problem is I have a gold banded clown in my tank. I don't want them to kill eachother and the GBC has proved that he's not going to be easily caught! I was about to start taking out my LR so I could catch him then I figured I'd ask you guys before I went through all that. Is it just a given that they will fight? Or is there a chance everyone could get along? I don't want to be cruel to the fish and start a fight club with them! Thanks in advance, Jason

You need to take the GB maroon clown out if you decided to buy a pair of percula clowns. The maroon WILL kill your new pair.

don't move your rock!

I learned this trick from the forum, get a clay flower pot with a hole in the bottom. Put the pot on its side in the tank so you can see the GBC when he's in there. He'll probably host in it within a couple hours or a day, once he's in there wait until the lights are out and he's sleeping (clowns are heavy sleepers!) and slowly reach in, put your hand over the pot and lift him out (you need a hole in the bottom so it lifts out easy), dump in LFS bag/tupper for next move. Super easy worked for with two fish in one day.

Cheers,

Josh

Is that Maroon clown right? Aren't they the most agressive and terriotorial of clowns..and if he's bigger than the newer clowns. I would expect the newer ones to be mauled...just being honest here...but someone can prove me wrong otherwise...

if i were you i would get him out. Marron are know as the most aggressive clown fish. they are also the hardest to pair. i had to remove my rock to get it out. but if josh trick works that would be really good. just remember you need the clown to fall asleep too. from what i hear is that you should never net a marron clown because they have a spine bone on their check and if it get caught you could rip his face off. I 've heard from a lfs that you should use finer nets. you could do your research on RC. clown are hard to get if they are not close to the front of display. wish you luck.

build a trap. I believe there is a DIY trap in this site. If you have a lot of LR I wouldn't recommend moving the rocks. GL

Also, I think on your other post, you said you have a yellow tail damsel. Beware that if the damsel is big enough and you start to add new fish (like pair of clowns) who are smaller than them ..can be trouble too. Since you have to move your rocks to catch the maroon, think about the damsel (damsels are extremely hard to catch as well). I can be bias since I don't really like damsels, they get quite aggressive when you don't add all the fish at the same time.

toss a piece of shrimp to jumpstart your tank, in the future. Don't torture a damsel; not that anyone seems to like damsels...

I didn't torture a damsel. I put him and the LR from the tank he was in, in my tank....oh ya, he was put in a week after I put in the LR and 2 tupperware scoops of sand from the tank he was in.

When I had my maroon clown, it was a very aggressive eater. It was eating flake so what I did was sunk a flake to let him know its feeding time, then float the rest and waited till he went up to get it. I had a net ready on my other hand, so when he went up I just grabbed him.

I took out half of my LR and caught my maroon clown! I took him to the store to trade him and got the pair of false percs! they are in my tank with my new peppermint shrimp! It looks like the clowns and the yellow tail damsel are all getting along, I seen them all swimming together in their own little school! :D
