My wife says majano, I think perhaps bubble tip? They split all the time like majanos, but the color doesnt match, and the percula that lives in the tank loves hosting there.

she still isn't convinced. what are some identifying features you are using? She is convinced they're majano because of the frequency of them splitting (once a week at least)

The majanoes tentacles usually don't look the same. The bulbs are more toward the ends usually. Also, just from what I can tell, the size of the anemone looks larger than majanoes, which are seldom much larger than half a dollar and lastly, I don't think perculas are ever hosted by majanoes, but BTAs often host percs in aquaria (though they aren't natural hosts).

Once a week cloning isn't normal for majano or BTAs. Sounds like either a lot of stress or perhaps an overestimation of the frequency of asexual divisions. What are your water parameters?

Agreed. I suspect that something is off, judging by the amount of hair algae in the pic.

Once a week may be a bit of an exaggeration; but it's definitely several times per month. It's hard to tell in the pic I posted, but the tentacles only go about 1/3 of the distance from the edge of the oral disc to the mouth. I'll try to take more pics when I get home from work. My wife is absolutely convinced they're mojanos. If they're not I'm going to feel pretty bad since I already exterminated them out of my tank, and wasnt particularly kind about it either.

Unless your wife is Daphne Fautin, I think you can trust the opinion of people who have kept E. quadricolor for years over her opinion.

no, but she does have a degree in Marine Biology from the University of Miami, so I tend to defer to her for most matters marine.

That being the case, don't tell her a Florida State grad gave an opinion :lolspin:

Fight, fight! Cage match! Two enter, only one leaves! :) Anemone Brawl 2010!

PS I'm with Greech on this one. Don't tell your wife :)

Not sure what else to say to convince you that what you have is E. quadricolor. But, the column and oral disc look somewhat different in majanos compared to your anemones. In majano anemones, the coloration is more solid, opaque, not translucent as much as in BTAs. The tentacular crown tends to have a more flat overall appearance in majano anemones compared to BTAs. Having seen lots of both species, that's about all I can think of: size, the fact it's hosting a perc, placement of the bulbs, overall appearance including column, and disposition of the tentacular crown. I hope you don't decide to shoot them with Joe's juice or Kalk. Someone would gladly take them off your hands, I'm sure.

I showed her this thread and I think I've got her pretty much convinced. I feel somewhat bad now, since my tank (pics are from her tank) had a bunch of them, and I was planning on getting a LTA. I exterminated all the anemones from my tank with salt and a butter knife thinking they were pests :sad2:
