the problem with outages is that it can last anywhere from 1hr to 12hrs. better safe than sorry.Originally posted by dymaxiun
I think a few hours shouldn't really be an issue with any of these tanks? Seriously though are we all just overreacting?
you sure about that? i've seen ups's that run for $100K+.Originally posted by drake66
I bought the most expensive UPS once, and it barely kept my mag 5 + 200w heater runnning for an hour, back when I had my 25g. I wouldnt use one, only if i had a bunch of maxijets as flow runners.

well, my ups's won't do you any good considering they are in my storage room, uncharged. lol.Originally posted by thirst
The outtage was just my side of the block. It was quite frustrating seeing the other side with lights, and here I am with my candles and stirring my tank with a turkey baster. Next time it goes down, I am going to hit up wilafur... I can't afford any UPSs
the reason is that a tank has a ton (beeeeellions) more life in it than a plastic bag with a single animal.Originally posted by dymaxiun
So, when corals get shipped for hours in a bag that has less than 1% the water volume of our tanks survives shouldnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t be a cause for concern. Then why does a tank that has 100% more water than that shipping bag loses power for a few hours should cause us to be concerned?
I think this thread should target an audience of people with low water volume which will definitely have more prone to temp swings.
the best bet is to purchase a natural gas back up system. most of these systems kick on automatically and power your entire home.Originally posted by Bebo77
its not the corals that die its the fish.. i had my power go out for 8 hours.. when i saw my fish all gasping for air at the bottom of the tank i ran out to costco to get a back up generator...i returned it the next day
UPS will run my tuze 6200 for aprox 30 min.. what a joke!
you can not run a generator on a porch.. they are LOUD and emit a lot of fumes....
i now have 3 battery powered airstones and i am looking into getting a house generator or better yet a solar powered system for the house...
