i have a rather large black crab in my tank. it looks like a emrald but definatly is not. it is eating my acro like candy, he comes out mainly at night but i see him from time to time. i can not catch him to save my life he is just to fast in his environment. does anyone have any experience or recomendations for this crabby situation????

Do you ever see him on a rock? I had a gorilla crab and wasn't sure how to catch it. I saw it tucked up under a rock one day and just lifted the rock out of the tank. It just hung on to the rock and I was able to get it out.

Good luck

Same thing....gorilla crab. I saw it eating my pink birdsnest on Christmas Eve last year before the family and I went to church. Came back and picked up the rock with the birdsnest and shook it a bit until he fell into the net I was holding. I put him in the sump and he actually is a pretty good scavenger of detritus.

Didn't have the heart to flush him...

I have read of some people setting up a trap. Do you have a sand bed? Burry a soda bottle with the top cut off as deep as you can in the sand bed nearest where the crab hangs out. Drop a meaty piece of food in there and hope he falls in.

Of course, if the rock h e lives under is removable, I would give that a shot first, as mentioned above!

I smooth sided glass will work as well. Tilt it up against the rockwork and place a piece of raw seafood in it. The crab can climb in, but the smooth sides make it extremely difficult to get back out. Just make sure the glass is taller than the crabs leg span.

+1 ^. Just be ready to catch a lot of hermits and nassarius snails while trying to get the crab. I've seen threads where people set out a glass trap for one crab, only to catch another crab that they didn't even know was in there!

well...

well...

i thought about removing the rock(s) he hangs around but one of them is a tonga branch that is wedged under another rock that is on top of a bigger rock not to mention about 15 coral on top of just those rocks... so that is out of the question, i am goin to try the glass trick and i know there is a low sucess rate being there are over 50 micro blue legs in the tank. arhhhh
