Hey

I think this guy is a blue knuckle hermit, and for now hes in a 14 g biocube with 25 lbs. of LR. Will he outgrow this? Because hes going to be in there for atleast 1 months, closer to 3. Should I just bring him back to the LFS and trade him for something else? Any suggestions?

how big is it? In 1 to 3 months there will probably not be that much growth - probably only one molt. Unless it is huge it should be ok. And - make sure he gets enough to eat.

He will be fine for that amount of time.Even full grown(I had one over 3 years which i think was full grown) they are not to big.

Right now, Is shell is no longer than an inch and a half in every way. What's their temperment like? I would like to put a scarlet reef crab and something else in there with him, will he fight them for a shell?

Does it have green claws? It looks very much like the Electric Blue Hermit that came as a hitcher with my Indonesian live rock. It grew pretty fast and as it got bigger it was gradually killing off my turbo snails, starting with the smaller turbos first, for their shells till I removed it. I know it was attacking live snails as I gave up separating the two and let nature take it course, and watched the hermit turn one over one night, pry at it till it was able to get at the snail's soft body, and began eating it. By morning the crab was wearing the newly killed snail's shell.

the claws arnt THAT green, but they do have a tint to them, from what i can tell in the above pic. I'll check tomorrow for you and let you know.

Thanks
Brian

This was mine. I don't think he bothered anything except my turbos that had a shell bigger than the one he was already carrying. He wouldn't go for the empty shells I had put in for him, till shortly before I put him in my refugium. Beautiful crab, but I wanted to keep some of my turbos too!

Yeah, hes claws definetly have a greenish hue to them, a bit lighter than yours though. I guess time will tell. If worst comes to worst, i'll have to give him back to the LFS if they'll take him, and go from there.

Eh... I've got one in my tank... and he doesn't bother anything, he hasn't even killed a snail yet. I just drop a bunch of random shells in there and my crabs will basically use those... they're not picky as long as it's easy for them to lug around.

I have one of those, as well as regular blue-legged hermit crabs and scarlet-legged hermit crabs. They all get along just fine.

Mine grew very large in the 10 months I kept it. The last shell it was in was about 1.5 inches in circumference, and it had unfortunately developed a taste for big Turbos!
