Need some trach advice..

So I bought this trach a few weeks ago and I think one of the corners dipped into the sand and it receded a little. Problem is that even after I took it out of the sand it is still slowly receding. Everything else looks great in the tank!

There's a lobo sitting right next to the trach that looks great too so I don't think its waterflow.

Lights are 150w halides

Should I chop off the dead portion? I don't want the recession to spread..

Advise please!!

Also, my extra large prizm favia has shown some slight recesion recently. Is there a additive I should add that I'm forgetting?

Had you just touched it/moved it prior to the photo? If not, I wouldn't call it a happy coral in general - not just the dead part. The skeleton is sticking up in several places, and the tissue is tight against the skeleton.

Can you tell us more about your tank? What is your temp, salinity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphates, pH, alk/ca/mag, etc?

Are you target feeding it anything? If so, what? If your nitrates/phosphates are within desired range, then I would start target feeding it asap.

Your sig says you have a mixed reef - do you run carbon/GFO? Any other things we should know about your tank (do you have an ULNS/dose vodka/etc)?

I haven't tested in a few weeks so I'll do that later today..

as to the rest of the system,

Temp usually runs right at about 80.
I have a pretty big refugium (not just a little ball of cheato, 7 algaes and basketball sized piece of cheato)
Skimmer is a euroreef 180
No dosers/reacters
I dose A/B 15ml a day
Strontium and Potasium Iodide 10ml every other week
Trace elements 10ml every other week


Tentacles do come out on the coral so i'm thinking i should get another shot to post..

As for target feeding, I'll give that a shot. Should I try during the day or night? High flow or low flow?

Please let us know what your parameters are when you get a chance. Dosing A/B at 15ml per day may or may not be the appropriate amount (but that shouldn't affect just the trach).

Tentacles are a good sign, and I suggest you take advantage of it. It'll help the coral heal a bit faster, as long as your tank parameters are within normal range. Feeding at night is typical for LPS, but you can train them to open frequently during the daytime. (Or just squirt a bit of food liquid around them, and they'll get the hint.) I turn all my flow off while feeding to make sure as much food gets to them and as little gets in the water column.
