i have an aiptasia outbreak going on in my mantis tank and since i can't get a peppermint shrimp or anything is joe's juice safe to use with a peacock mantis? also what's safe to use that will kill amphipods, they're eating my zoas. thanks!

Ive never seen amphipods eat zoas....are you sure its them thats doing the damage and not a zoa eating nudi? Try an iodine dip for the zoas and take a look in the bucket for any unwanted creatures...

I would imagine joes juice is safe...ive used it in my reef with hermits and they didnt mind it...but ive never used it in a mantis tank

yea it's the pods, if a you read up a little in the zoa thread you'll learn that they do eat zoas believe it or not. it's really annoying because i liked having them in the tank as some kind of clean up crew but i like my zoas more.

from wet web media regarding amphipod predation on your zoas...it seams that its possible that they may have reproduced so much they have exausted their natural food source and are now going after your zoas...FW dip will take the pods off the polyps

You can kill aptasias using almost boiling water in a syringe with a large gauged needle on the end, I use an 18 or 16 when I do it. Same procedure as joe's juice, just kinda stab the pest in the stalk or mouth, I think stalk works best and inject a decent amount.

i would much rather do boiling water, where could i get a syringe? and also about the freshwater dip wouldn't only kill the pods that are on the zoas, there are still more in the tank that will just continue to reproduce i would think

If you have a dog or something ask your vet they should be able to give you one or sell you one, I work for vet so I just grab one if I need it. You want a 12cc syringe with a Lure-lock. This way you can secure the needle on tightly with out it coming off the end unintentionally. Also you want a large gauge needle, I like 18 to 16. All you do is boil some R/O water and suck it up into the syringe and your good to go. Just be careful you don't burn yourself. If a Vet won't help you out try asking a nurse or someone.

Joe's Juice (and similar products) when used in "reasonable" amounts, did not bother my peacock mantis at all.

I always went one step further and used boiling water with lemon juice added, about 1/4 lemon juice 3/4 water.

This is acidic and basically if the heat doesnt kill the aptasia, the small amount of acid inside it will definitely kill it.

You can also just use plain lemon juice, but I figured a double approach is better incase I had a the freak anemone that was resistant to heat :)

The lemon juice wont have a negative effect on the tank parameters??? Will a water change be required afterwards immediatly? I've got a 8gal and an experience deficit.
