need your suggestions for new tank

Hello Im new to anemones but have a decent amount of experience in general with the hobby. I just recently recieved a 30 gallon solana with 150mh from a friend. I was thinking about doing an all anemone tank something where I wont be spending tons of money. Im hoping to get a pair of clowns and then some anemones. My thoughts were maroon clownfish and bubble tip anemones and thats about it. What do you think? What suggestions would you have for a newbe to anemones?

IMHO, a bubble tip would be your best bet. I have a rose bubble tip in my 30g cube and it's gotten really large. Around 10" fully expanded. It recently split too. I'd suggest keeping just one anemone in the solana.

I was going to do just one species I thought it would be nice to have nice flowing tank with a couple clownfish swimming around. The only thing I was thinking is maybe 2 colors of btas.

Like Adrienne stated, BTAs can/will get very large, so keep that in mind. (( The last one I had was 15+" when I sold it )). I would start with just one, and see how it goes. If you plan on keeping a pair of maroons -- as opposed to just one --- make sure that the anemone is as around 3 times the size of the clowns. Maroons are very hard on smaller anemones and can "love them to death".

If you really want two then go with a small green and a small rose. More then likely they will fill up the tank and as they split you will have to remove the clones. In a year if the anemone gets to big and doesn't split you can trade it for a smaller one or manually split it yourself.

Im decent at keeping an sps tank but no experience with the anemones how forgiving are they?

If you can keep Acros then you are fine with LTA's or BTA's.

They are pretty tough and more tolerant of extreme swings. I know of tanks that had kalk over doses where all the corals died but the anemones survived. I had a power outage and the tank temp dropped enough to wipe out my LPS and SPS but my LTA and BTA survived.

Thats promising, Im a college student so the less I have to spend on my mistake the better (especially with the price for some of the anemones).

LTAs are fairly easy (( as far as anemones go )) but, the hard part is finding a healthy one. And unlike BTAs, LTAs prefer to be on/in the sandbed, and seem more sensitive to too much flow.

are there clownfish in general you find to work better with those to types of anemones you had said maroons are aggressive with them. Although they are my 1st choice I would be willing to look at other species. My plan was a pair of marroons and anemones so anything within those line would work well. I already have percula so nothing like that.

This is just my experiences,

For BTAs, I have had them host; Pink Skunks, Saddlebacks, Cinnamons, Clarkii and Percs.

LTA; Pink Skunks, Percs, Ocellaris, Clarkii and one more I am forgetting.

Even if they aren't natural hosts, both BTAs and LTAs seem to host a variety of clowns with little issue.

If you start with small maroons they will all grow up together so the anemone will be larger and able to take the possible abuse.

so your saying if i can find small enough maroons it should work out? Do I need to worry about maroons quarreling? I assumed they were very aggressive and they were a bit more difficult to pair then others species. Should I worry about this?

Looks like I might be getting a gbta for 25 dollars a lot cheaper then I thought it will hopefully be coming this saturday. Im moving the tank after work so its all set in motion.

you should get some picassos. since your not gonna be spending anything on corals, it would be an awesome addition. get 2 or 3 bta's and just watch them take over your tank and sooner or later you can start selling the clones. i wouldnt get marroons, they may beat up some smaller nems

yeah but the ones in the wild are huge and can take it. if you want marroons, get big btas are wait till they get big than add them

If you are set on a BTA/maroon species tank, I would recommend putting in your BTA first and let it get settled, over the course of a few weeks maybe even a month or so. Make sure its' foot is down and has found a "happy place" and that it is eating. Once you are comfortable taking care of it and it has adjusted to your tank and it looks good/strong, introduce your maroon. If your BTA is on the small side, make sure that the maroon is quite a bit smaller than the BTA if possible. It won't take long for the two to find each other, even if the maroon is tank raised. I have a BTA with one maroon at the moment. I got a .75 inch tank raised maroon that I watch go from its' white stripes to yellow ones over the course of 10 months. Rarely does that maroon leave the BTA. I will be upgrading my tank to a 30 in the next 3-4 months and letting the lone maroon grow bigger in the hopes of pairing it down the road with another tiny maroon in a species tank.

Alright tank is set up. My green bta will be coming tommorow and I pre ordered a pair of gold stripe maroons that they expect will come in a few weeks from now. Is there anhy last suggestions you guys would have? Also what kind of clean up crew would you suggest?
