Nem lovers

So, my Phoenix nem still hasn't settled down and has started to look weird. Parameters were normal last check this week:

alk dKH 12
mag 1440ppm
calc 445ppm
nitrate 12-14ppm
phosphate .05ppm
pH ~8.0

Doing another water change and test tomorrow, I'll post the results but I expect them to be similar. Everyone always posts suggestions on getting one to move, anyone have suggestions on getting one to settle?

Please define 'weird'.

It has been flattening out the oral disc, and dramatically shrinking/fluffing over the last few days. Last night it was wedged into the corner near the AIO intake and had shrunk to about the size of a golfball, some stringy "stuff" coming out of it's foot in places. I moved it to the top of the vidarock structure (first time I've force moved it since adding it - I was afraid it had split it was so small) but this morning it's already moved a long distance.

I've had btas take a few months to acclimate to their new home. Unfortunately inverts, especially anemones may take a while to shows signs of stress. Btas can change color and/or shape when moved to a new environment. That's is why they are always a risk to buy. Odds are it was only at the shop a couple days before you bought it. If it had stayed in the shop for an extended period of time, it would most likely develope changes. So its hard to really pinpoint why your bta is changing. Could be different lighting, flow and diet. As long as your water parameters are good, there's not much you can do other than feed it a couple times per week and make sure it has access to good light.

OH NO!! Im sorry to hear its acting wierd. It has gone thru alot of changes in the days leading up to now. It was only at the shop for a day or two. Im not sure if it were under halides or not to begin with... I was worried about it only being in the shop a couple days thats why I didn't say "bag it up" immediatly. I WANTED TOO! Really I WANTED IT! If the stringy stuff is coming out of its mouth it may be expelling zooxanthellae. Is it loosing any of its color? Or it maybe just pooping. Mine get all wierd and deflated when they relieve themselves. Anemones are funny sometimes. I'd just leave it alone and feed it every couple of days. Is it eating fine? I only really worry when they wont eat and loose the stickyness. Mine wont eat when they are relieving themselves. So Im saying leave it alone and hope for the best! lol.. real helpful huh?

Are these tube nems sting worse than a carpet also are they photosynthetic or not.

55 gal mixed reef 10 gal SPS Dom.
10 gal nem tank 2 maxi minis 2 rock flower and one sunburst RBTA

Sent from some device using some app

Not sure if they are worse than a carpet, but they will badly sting any corals around it. They are not photosynthetic...I noticed mine liked the shady area of my reef tank the best

First Anemone

First Anemone

Just got this little guy like a week ago. Seems to be doing really well. Was sticky, open, and eating since the first day. Seems to have found a place that it likes and anchored... too bad I cant really see it... Fail

It has allready colored up way more than this pic, with a lot of green and bright pink/red tips.

some advise,

Get a 2" white pvc coupler slip to slip. put it on the bottom of the tank and put the nem inside. It should attach to the side of the coupler and be happy.

Lol......that won't keep a nem in place. It will still wander if it wants to.

everything else considered. good water, flow, lighting, ect.

give a nem a place it feels safe, typically they don't wander.

also, this particular strain seem to like 2" pvc coupler...

Thanks for the advice,

I am pretty keen on letting it choose where it feels is best even at the expense of visibility, plus I think as it acclimated more to my lights I hope it will move again... Possibly wishful thinking.

Also I would be too worried about damaging it by trying to move it. It seems happy

Well, well, well. Look who's been in the same spot for over 24 hours... and accepting mysis and krill at that!

Fingers crossed this spot works out.

Yesterday:

(Notice the 2" slipxslip pvc. I was about to try that method when I noticed it had hunkered down in a spot that fit like a gloooooooove. Ignore the poor sun coral.)

Just now:

If majano weren't harmful evil stingers I would have a dozen of them. They are actually quite beautiful when they are bright green. Like tiny BTA.
