"nesting" behavior question??

I just added a very young oscilaris to pair up with my 2ish year old. The little guy isn't even an inch long yet. I put him in the DT in the middle of last week and they hit it off. A little posturing and false charging for the first phew hours but after that they are never more than a couple inches apart.

My curiosity is...
They have a small "nest" dug in the sand and defend it fearsly. It can't be posable they are spawning could it?? Like I said, the new one is about 7/8" long. I can't imagine it's mature enough. I don't see eggs, maybe they are just prepping? This is my first clown pair so I'm a little curiouse.

It's just a 1.5inch hole. Not much to see. I'm still waiting to for the upgrade on my phone. The camera is all scratched up and I can't get tank pics that are worth anything.

Alot of clowns like to dig in the sand. I don't think they are paired long enough to start to spawn yet. Few months maybe.

I have a pair of 1 year old perculas in the 180g DT. They have 2 RBTA they could use, but they hang out together in the front lower left end of the tank, down by the sand. I don't think your situation is that uncommon.

my female maroon clown is digging for last one and half year....the male simply watches on...no mating yet...:debi:

I think he is too young to spawn

+1

It is just an interesting behavior that I'm used to seeing in my large mouth bass when they were spawning. The clown would dig a little from time to time but now it seems a full time thing since I added the second clown. I'm thinking she is just a little optomistic. Lol.

My percula clowns live in conch shells, they lay their eggs in the one shell. They also stir up the sand in front of shells.
