New 180G!!! WOOHOO!!!!

Looks good.. the ballvalve for water changes was a nice idea.. I might have to steal that lol.. The only thing I would suggest.. You might want to consider getting some better ball valves.. Those look like the standerd ones lowes and home depot sell.. They are ok.. But with the larger pipe size and the saltwater.. They tend to be a Pita to turn after a few months.. The small ones get a lil stiff to .. But the larger pipe just seems to make it worse.

The george fischer valves are a lot better but they then to be a little expensive. I think it cost about $23 just for a 3/4" valve. Ewing in Fremont might have them. But for sure you can get them at Grainger.

I decided to get the gate valves available at OSH instead. They work considerably better than the ball valves  . Thanks 8BALL_99 for prompting that move.

The George Fischer valves look interesting but I don't want to spend more on plumbing that the tank itself  . The gatevalves weren't much cheaper :eek1: .

Thanks,

Minh

Congrat on the new tank Minh!! You really need a bigger one. The 60G is way too small for some of your SPS colonies.

Setup looks great. You mentioned that you got your tank custom built by Crittertanks... excellent work. As for plumbing & skimmer, where did you get your unions & valves for your plumbing... were they expensive? Also, you didn't say anything about where your got your Deltec. That's a winner, great choice on the Deltec!

Sorry folks.... been kinda busy working on the plumbing after work.

HappyReefer2, I got most of my plumbing from Lowe's and OSH. They were more expensive then I thought :eek1: . @ $200-300.

I got the Deltec off of an E-tailer. I haven't hooked it up yet but can't wait. I'll shoot some pics soon when the pvc glue dries. I'm doing a water test tomorrow to check for leaks  .

I'll post an update soon. I also received my base rock from reefer rocks and they are bad-***!!! I'll post them too.

Woe on the plumbing parts! Did you get your Deltec locally or out of state. I was looking at the Deltec website tonight and it looks like San Francisco and Hayward has authorized dealers.

Spent all weekend doing H2O testing and plugging up leaks. What a PIA  !!! Plugged them all up with some quick setting marine epoxy from OSH finally. I've also been busy making RO/DI water as well. Even with my 100GPD set-up, it takes forever!!!!

Tank's not easy to move with it full of water to spot the leaks in the back. I used those heavy duty triangle furniture movers underneath the stand just in case I ever need to move it. Glad I did, it's not easy though. I've done this for my 60G for over 5 years and never had a problem for those that might be questioning. Of course I needed a whole lot more movers for this tank :eek1: .

My base rocks arrived too on Friday and damn they look good. Great ledges to start with. They were pretty heavy though but lots of holes in them. I've done a preliminary set up. What do you guys think? I used my wife's yoga mats since they were the same dimensions as the tank to plan out :D.

Close-up of a great looking archway/cave.

Enjoy the pics. I'll have enough H2O tomorrow to fill the tank finally but I've ran out of IO salt . If it's not one thing, it's another  .

Enjoy,

Minh

Wow very nice rock Minh.. If I knew this vendor, I wouldn't buy rock from ebay. They are super heavy and don't look 1/2 as good as this. Post pic as you go.. I'm trying to get my wife buy me a bigger tank :D ...

I've got split doors on top since I was contemplating going open top again with this tank. I can just easily remove the hinges if needed. This way I won't need a chiller for this tank as well if it gets too hot.

As for the rocks, yeah they're pretty awesome. The good news is that the vendor takes photos of the rocks prior to sending it to you. No surprises as to what you'll get. He'll even set it up for you if you want before he takes the pictures. I also have some live rock from the other tank that I'll use to seed these. I was contemplating getting some live rocks from some other vendors but you never know what you'll get.

Alright.... all leaks have been plugged. The tank is finally full of fresh saltwater!! It's kinda cloudy since I didn't rinse the southdown bags. I figured that the Deltec can clear that up. Boy-o-boy did it ever!!! This has got to be the most impressive skimmer I've ever seen. I thought my euroreef kicked arse but this one rocks!!!

Look at all those micro bubbles!!!

Collection cup just after 5 minutes!!! I had to dial down the venturi to almost no air to slow it down!!!!

The tank is really clearing up quick. I've just attached the euroreef CS 6-1 from my 60 to see how it keeps up and help clear up the tank too.

Enjoy the pics!!!

I was wondering if you have a picture of the sump area that you can post. What type of sump do you have? MFG? Are you going to set up a refugium?

I am currently setting up a 180 gallon tank and looking around for equipment. I am also planning to purchase a Deltec 600 or AP 701 skimmer. Still deciding which one is better for a 180gal..

I decided to get the gate valves available at OSH instead.

I found OSH is the only HW store in the Fremont area where I can get gate valves. Not HD, Lowes or ACE. I am plumbing my 1st tank which is 90 gal. Just want to say hi and good luck!
