New 630gal SPS Peninsula, NJ

Hi,
I am planning to build 800gal tank between my kitchen and livingroom as a peninsula style 108x48x36h.
1. I am still not sure what should I go with glass or acrylic? Any advice would be great
2. Wood or steel stand?
2. Any recommendations of tank manufacturers close to NJ area?

My plan is to locate an overflow box outside, two holes on sides of overflow for closed loop intake and four on the bottom for closed loop return.

Please feel free to give me any ideas or advice.

3. Coast to Coast in Toms River (but at this size, your not just going to go pick it up your self in your truck). So delivery is going to be involved, so locality is less important IMO, in which case I say go with miracles.

Never had a Acryllic tho its 97% transsparic and ordinary glass is around 70-80%.

Starfire is good but scratch easyer then ordinary glass.

Coast to Coast is going to be very expensive. I was going to go with them for my build and ended up getting my tank built by Atlas Tank Works in Canada. Even with shipping to a local mover and then the movers delivering to my house it was still more about half the price. I went with starphire and kind of regret it because it scratches very easily. I would definitely do a steel stand and can give you the name of the guy that built mine here in Manasquan.

Be ready for sticker shock with coast to coast. Although quality is superb, you can get same quality with delivery from miracles and still be much cheaper

No matter what you get, you need to be careful!

My oldest is a custom 130/120g by "10 e core"...2 others (130g and 200g sump) are by AquaMark, a custom builder that is no longer in business, and I have 2 (the 450g and a 130g) from GlassCages

Add the stand, water, sand and rocks and I am close to 4,000 lbs. If weight is an issue, acrylic will give you an advantage over glass since its lighter.

I have a basement, but weight is not an issue. I am doing an addition to my house, and my architect will calculate into it 5000lbs weight.

there you go!!!! IMO...you might want to do more. If you think about just the weight of the water....you are already pushing close to 7000 lbs. Add the tank, stand, sand and rocks and you are probably closer to 9000 lbs total. Nice thing is you can take the steps now to make sure things are sturdy enough.

+1...not to mention sump, if it's upstairs...and don't forget those days when family and friends are all standing around and admiring your tank...add another ~1000 lbs (+) for them!


BTW...1 piece glass or acrylic (wrap around/bullnose) will probably double the price over 'square' corners...and 36" tall is a PITA to clean...you will have almost 70 sq. ft. of 'glass' to take care of! You'll have to move the stepstool about 11 times!!!!

believe it or not but we already change blue prints in order to fit the tank in it I will install another support for Flor anyway (parallam or I-beam). All equipment go to basement, all pumps etc.

Tagging along. Have you thought about having a glass tank built at your location like Bennytheblenny's build? Seems like an acceptable idea in the size you are looking at.

I ordered mine the first week of December and got the tank middle of February. they had some delays due to the holidays and they had one of the panels recut because it was off a little.
