New 6ft reef tank! :)

I would not put a semilarvatus butterfly in a reef. The regal will most likely go after the lps also. Its really a hit or miss.

Oh okay, which of the butterfly's would be better? kinda like the long nose as well so wouldn't mind swapping out for that one. Also the regal is at the top of my stocking list along with a milliaris moray so I don't mind taking the risk with him :)

I have a chainlink moray in my reef tank. He ate a fish his first day in the tank. a red firefish. Ate the rest of the redfirefish (3). Then a purlpe psuedo( blessing in disguise haha). He is about 11in and hasn't eatin anymore fish. I have 3 s/w mollies that he hasn't touched yet. and the chainlink and my cleaner shrimp sleep in the same rock haha.
I know this eel wasn't on your list but just figured i'd give you my experience with an eel in a reef because im sure theres not many tanks like that.

Cheers for the advice man, its something for me to think about. Dont want the eel endangering my fish tbh so might knock it off the list and just stick with the golden dwarf moray.

Might even go for something like the skeletor as most people seem to have good luck with them not eating tankmates.

Thanks again!

I think what also happened in the beginning is i didn't feed my eel as much so i'm sure that might have cause him to still lurk for food. He has had plenty of chances to eat my sw mollies. He did eat my peppermint shrimps though. I wish i caught it on video when he snagged one out of a cave. It was a sight to see.
Also what i like about my eel is he will take the food and roll around stirring up sand in the places i can't get to and it helps keep dead spots from forming haha, just a little bonus.

Sounds pretty badass! haha thought I caught my zebra moray snacking on a cleaner shrimp at one point too and that was pretty impressive :)

The GDM I have now is really fast, lightning quick at taking the food! So is a big contrast compared the the huge, muscular powerhouse eels like the zebra :)

Eels have got to be my favorite fish! Hoping after this setup I can get a jap dragon moray, they are impressive as hell!

Think my other most favorite actual fish is the regal angel, just beautifal and they have tonnes of personality.

I too had a snowflake eel and chainlink eel living in harmony together, until I gave them away due to moving soon. They did go after fish but they didn't touch the shrimp that was in there for the longest time.. Then he disappeared and I knew what happened. Good guys...

I wouldn't bother putting ornamental shrimp in this tank. They'll be eaten by your eels and/or your puffer.

Sorry, only just rechecked this thread.
Thanks for the reply! and ah ok, might have to create a refugium and have the shrimps live in there then, just to be safe. Also have you ever heard of puffers or tobies nipping other tank mates fins? or even eels?

I've heard that the cleaner shrimp will eventually kill each other off until there are two left for a pair, even if it takes a few months. I wouldn't bother to get 4, only get 2. Also the sand sifting stars will most likely die of starvation, so I would get a serpent star or some other starfish. I noticed others were helping you with your fish so I figured I would comment on your inverts

Ok, cheers for the advice! Will pass on the 4 cleaners but is this the same with scarlet cleaner shrimp instead of the normal? (skunk cleaners) and already have a Sand-sifting star in my existing tank and he is doing well so will be moving him over :)
