Hi! I am a newbie to Anemones so please bare with me. :)

I just bought one yesterday from the LFS and he seems to pretty much be half under a rock and half above it, he is pretty "bleached" but not incredibly white. I have tried feeding him shrimp, problem is he seems to not really suck it up and I cant get to his mouth becasue of his location. I will post a pictures so you all can see it!

I have a 55GAL setup with about 46lbs of LR and if I remember correctly... about 20 lbs of LS, and a few fish. Its been setup for about 7 months or so with fish only and this is my first anemone. I have a Solarmax H.O. 48" T5 system 54w x2, its from Deep Blue and its got the 8 moon LEDS along with a 10,000K Daylight Lamp and Actinic-03 Lamp.

OH and this little guy is a Purple Tip Sebae Anemone

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks guys!

If his arms are sticky, then you will be able to feed him. Eventually, he might recover zooxanthellae. If he shrinks over time, you aren't feeding him enough.

I have had a bleached anemone since February (from another aquarist whose light broke and maybe other problems) which I don't think is going to make it. It does not extend its tentacles even a fraction and thus is difficult to feed. It is about 1/5 the size I received it.

The light you are using is kinda minimal for an anemone. Which means the recovery will be tough and slow. Try turning off all your flow and setting several mysis shrimp on top of the tentacles. It may take up to 10 minutes but it should(hopefully) pull some of them in. If this works, do it again every other day until it starts grabbing the food quickly. Then you can leave the flow on and should be headed in the right direction.

Good luck!

I have a BTA in a similar state and I use a turkey baster to squirt mysis in as close to his mouth as possible. This usually irritates him enough to engulf the shrimp and (hopefully) eat most of them. Its been 3 months for mine but he is finally recovering and his tenticles are getting a bit bigger and colored.

Yeah he is going to be alright i think I went out and bought it some food yesterday and it ate the small piece of silver side I gave it... i think he will pull through... he still hasnt moved, maybe he likes it where he is, idk... lol
