New Anemone, should I disable Powerhead?

I've seen a lot of statements that say powerheads should be disabled when introducing an anemone. I have an MP40 and the two return discharges from my sump pump in my tank. The MP40 is towards the top of the tank and is set to the random reef setting. I guess I fail to see how he could get 'sucked in' to the MP40 being 20" away from where he is. He would have to either float up to it or climb the glass. Both of which I think are unlikely???

He has been drip acclimated to the DT and introduced. It's my first Anemone (and likely only). He has already settled into the sand and has his tentacles happily extended (and mouth closed).

So, should I turn off the MP40?

unless you are watching the anemone turn off the powerhead until the anemone settles into a spot it likes.

What type of anemone do you have because bta's wonder a lot i just got a bta a month ago and he just settled into a spot.

It's a purple LTA. he seems to have settled down into a good spot in the sand. But he's also only been in there for about six hours.

The mp40 is only about two inches from the top of the tank. Is it possible for him to swim up that high?

it is possible i have heard that they float up to the surface and go with the current. Never happened to me though. I would give it a week if he stay's in that spot turn the powerhead's on. You can have the powerhead on but make sure that you are home to watch it.

I would use the foam sleeve that came with the MP40. I have had several BTA's and when they start to move, I err on the side of caution.

I have personally see them jump off the rock and float. They get boyant enough to flow with the water column. That includes going all the way up.

Regardless of how long they have been acclimated and stationary they could at anytime pick up and move. With that said, and many other threads in this section will attest to, LEAVE the cover on.
