New Anemone

Reefing On My Mind
Team RC
So......... I took the plunge and bought an anemone today... Its a bit bleached, but has been in the store for 3 or 4 weeks with a tight mouth... Curious as to all your opinions on ID... I'll leave my own opinion out and let you guess as to what it was labeled as well... ;) Anyways... Here's a pic, not the best because I took it with my phone... This is about an hour after being introduced to one of my tanks... Drip acclimated for about an hour and a half or so... Looks ok. :D

It honestly could be anything. Honestly it looks severly bleached OR dyed. I don't put much stock in this one surviving. Please, prove me wrong! I want you to.

i would guess sebae. Unfortunately, otherwise I also agree with dalilgriffith... looks VERY bleached to me... :( Hope you can pull it through!

it looks very bleached it looks to be a sebae but I think it has a little bit of a Ritteri characters... Take a pix of foot and underside... Good luck

H.crispa. Yes, it's bleached but it does look like there's the remainder of some zooxanthellae in the tentacles. So with the right conditions it could be a success story.

Wow... Bunch of Debbie Downers in here... I have realistic expectations with this anemone... I purchased it knowing it was severely bleached as stated in my original post... I talked the LFS down in price, knowing the chances for survival were not in my favor... All that being said, if I am lucky enough and I do well enough taking care of it I think it has the potential to be a spectacular specimen... This thread is meant to document my endeavor, so we can share in our successes and failures...

I currently have the Anemone in a 50g cube which is pretty much my refugium and part of a 300g+ system...

Here were the best pics I could get with my phone when the lights were on this morning...

Wanted to see its feeding response so gave it a few PE Mysis this morning and it grabbed it right away... :)

I had one that was white as snow. with 1" arms

It is now brown and green.... with 5-6" arms.

Turned out nice.

H. Magnifica were my thoughts after looking at it for an hour or so each time I was at the LFS. It was listed as an Extra Large BTA... The Verrucae were a dead giveaway once I got it home... It was hard to see at the LFS because it wasn't under very good lighting...

Its a bit more expanded today than yesterday... Hoping to save this guy... Would be nice to see it colored up... :)

U have good lighting so if you feed him high grade foods soaked in vitamins u have a good shot he looks to have some zoo left in him so that is s pluses.the only bleached nemesis a ever brought back was a Alta.btw that is bleached are most Likly goners .never done a crispa but hive it a try I'm pulling for ya.maybe some crispa owners can chime in and help out.selvon soaked foods are a must and carbon they Dupont take chemicals well at all especially in his state.also cameras make them looked more bleached then they are.take s pic ofhim with lites out and flash the flash will show howmuch zoo is left.gl I will keep feeding this post to see the progress he will be a beauty if u succeed keep clowns away till he comes Back no stress at all

Now if you're going to use my name, spell it right!

I've seen many posts of recoveries over the years, good luck with it.

Thanks Debi! You're only a downer to the naughty folks on RC that deserve it... ;)

Still fully expanded with a tight mouth today... Going to pick up some scallops from the grocery tomorrow... :)

I say Heteractis Crispa. But like the others, I think it is not in good shape at all.

I'm going with H. crispa FTW! Doesn't look like H. magnifica at all to me, personally :)

Yeah it's mostly bleached, but I've seen worse. To paraphrase a line from Miracle Max in "The Princess Bride": It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY bleached. There's a big difference between mostly bleached and all bleached. Mostly bleached is slightly UNbleached. :)

With proper environment and care a mostly bleached anemone can bounce back pretty quickly.

:lolspin: Loving the "Princess Bride" Quote... And I am going to have to start to agree with the H. Crispa verdict... I had not seen a blue one before, so I didn't even consider it... Plus, I thought I saw verrucae, but upon closer inspection just seems to be some random lines no the base... This will be my first Crispa... :)

Hope it turns out like the pic on LiveAquaria...

It has at least doubled in size since I added it to my tank on Tuesday... I had to move the rock that it was on further out from the wall toward the center of the tank so that it wasn't squished against the glass... This puts it closer to being directly under the MH pendant, so I'll have to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get stressed... But there is definitely more blue in the base and the tentacles are getting a bit darker as well... :D

Still making progress. Actually moved it to my main display today. Took some crappy pics before I moved it, bit they'll suffice.

If you haven't attempted to feed it, I would highly suggest doing so. If it takes, it will drastically increase the speed of recovery.

I have been feeding it mysis and squid every other day. It is eating great. Looks good in the display tank. My clowns dove right in and don't appear to be stressing it out. It ate a couple pieces of squid tonight as well. I currently have it on a flat rock on the sand bed. I will likely move it upward as it colors up. Pics to come tomorrow.
