new blue gigantea

whats it doing? Its been sandwiched in half like all day. It actually gets pretty strong flow, you just dont notice it because its folded in half. I'm moving the rocks around on saturday, get him a more ideal location.

It's probably folded up because of the clowns. My clowns keep my gigantea folded up pretty good as well. Your clowns may be preparing to spawn.

when do clowns reach sexual maturity..I've only had these clowns for a year. the female is only ~1.5 in.

I would watch the behavior of your clowns. If they are biting around the rocks the base of the nem is attached to, this cleaning of the surface (which is a pre-spawning behavior but even if they are not sexually mature they sometimes engage in these types of behaviors as sort of a ritual/practice) may irritate the nem so it moves. One of my carpets has been in the same exact spot on the same rock for nearly a year. When the clowns spawn, they bite at the foot and the disk to keep the carpet off of the clutch. Depending where they decide to spawn, they sometimes get the anemone to completely change shape. Over the course of a day or so of this, the anemone moves 2-3 inches to the other side of the rock to get away from the nipping.

A new anemone would likely be even more apt to move if the clowns are engaging in pre-spawning behavior.

Why is it down so low in the aquarium? It almost appears to be in a low light / partially shaded location. In my opinion it is impossible to give a gigantea too much light, while it is very possible to not give it enough.

I do not believe the folded over behavior has anything to do with your clowns, especially if they are just ocellaris/perculas variety.

the way the picture takes it looks like a low light area. Its actually smack dab in the center with nothing above it. I moved my rocks around today and its looks MUCH better. still in the middle, but off to the side a little more.

Heres a picture of it today, one with darker resolution, and one with 0 dim.

Man this anemone is growing quicker than I expected. My question now is...how can I make it darker. The tips of the tentacles are blue but most of the tentacle is a pink color. Any way I can get it darker in color. It catches PE mysis when I feed the tank (the clowns grab some and feed it). Some pics....

I think it looks great. As long as it's healthy and feeding I wouldn't worry too much about color.

Whats up with its foot? Like half of it is detached from the rock. Anyway I can encourage it to attach on firmer? I dont like the way it extends itself so far, neither does my prostrata. I can see the foot attached to the bottom of the tank as well. So it does have grasp. Eats great, never really shrivels up.

You think maybe its reaching for the light? Just a thought.

What sort of lights do you have and when was the last time you replaced your bulbs?

My Mertensii went on the move when I was overdue on changing the bulbs.

I use 2x250w radiums powered by galaxy ballasts in lumenmax II reflectors. Teh lights are 12" from bulb to water. During the day it flattens out (not extended, but still is ruffley). That picture was taken when it was just actinics. I also use 2x39w geisemann actinic+, but just recently ordered some ATI blue plus.

I am curious to see what kind of light it is getting tho, im thinkign about buying a par meter.

My Haddoni stretches like that some evenings...no rhyme or reason for it that I could ever tell. Only consistent factor is it happens after the lights go to actinic.

Only thing I have notice is that is has shifted the rock its foot is under by doing it and shifted itself slightly. Maybe its jockeying for position...see if it shifts a bit after doing it the next day.

I'll see if I can get a pic the next time it does it at my house.
