Another Imp guy.....Had to jump on the bandwagon eh Gary? I am supprised you with a sub-adult. I have heard that they are more likely to be nippers.
Are you feeding any sponge?
I've always wanted an Emperor. This goes back to days before I had an aquarium.
I tried some frozen Angel formula (with sponge) for the first time yesterday. The Angelfish pretty much ignored it but my Anthias loved it. Go figure.
I've seen the imp sample almost everything in my aquarium. It definitely prefers taking prepared foods from my hand rather than chasing it down in the water column.
It quickly established itself as "king" of the aquarium, but I haven't heard it grunt yet.

Mine digs the Angel Fish Formula. It will take it out of my hand. Mine is still a Juvy and doesn't grunt. I am happily awaiting the color change.

On a side not I read that feeding sponge is key to them reaching there full adult colors. I find sponge at the oriental store from time to time...Would you like me to let you know when I have it Gary??

Scott

Thanx for the offer, Scott. With all of the sponges growing in my aquarium and the sponge in the commercial frozen foods I think this fish has enough sponge in it's diet.

Mine gets Ocean Nutrition Formula One marine pellet food, with Nori every other day, and seems quite fat and healthy. Must be the garlic in the Formula One--the stuff stinks and is moist like premium dog food!

John

In addition to other foods, mine gets a soft spirulina based pellet put out by HBH. (I've had good luck feeding Tangs these pellets in FO systems.)
Most people keeping Angels swear by the Spectrum pellets (I've done a LOT of research on this).
You gotta love how a well fed Emperor can develop a gut like a lunker bass and their lines curve around that fat belly :)

Hay, cool! You got a piece of your acro back. My frag of it is finally starting to get blue tips in the last two months. Not the easiest frag to color up, but very nice once it does :)

WOW!! Son of Hairy Green Monster is born!!! Whack it with flow, as I'm sure you're doing, and it will table nicely---

John

So Gary, what is your current fish inhabitant list? Are the anthias still Bartletts or did you get some Dispar? I love the colors!

Agreed.

I felt that I needed to up my water flow recently for several reasons, John. I needed to do it right away, too, so I replaced one of my MJ1200's with a Via Aqua 3600. This is a pump that many people normally use as a main circulation pump. It's on my Tsunami wavemaker set for 40 minute on/off intervals. I don't know how long this pump will last constantly cycling on and off, but I couldn't find another powerhead/pump with this much "umph" for the price and I can't afford the Tunzes right now.
I like my penductors and I'll stick with them on the returns from my main pump.
Having two different and independent sources for providing water movement is critical IMO.
(Sanjay explained this very well in his presentation at the zoo.)
If my main pump ever fails I still have my bank of powerheads to provide water motion. If the powerhead circuit fails I still have the main pump circulating water. I've been running the Via Aqua for several weeks now and it's pointed directly at one of my penductor returns. So far it's a good solution and I'm happy, but if I sell enough frags I want some Tunzes :D

Mel- my Bartlett's jumped. I currently have seven juvenile Anthias. I believe that some are dispar and some are ignitus.

Why is it when I look at those two pictures, I get the song "Car Wash" by Rose Royce stuck in my head?!?!

At the car wash
Workin' at the car wash, girl
Come on and sing it with me
(Car wash)
Sing it with the feelin' ya'all
(Car wash, girl)

Ooh!

whoa.... flashbacks of the late 70's.
Was it really 30 years ago? Yikes!

Fast forward to the present: one of my Anthias is turning male.
