new "canvas"

good reason.
This is the second PBT I've attempted in this aquarium (see earlier posts in this thread and the link in post below) and the third PBT that I've ever attempted. I've not had any problems with this latest PBT except for the HILLE that it had when I purchased it. (This fish came from another person's aquarium and then sat in a LFS's holding tank for several months before I decided to get it.)
This fish doesn't bother corals. It's established dominance over all the fishes in my aquarium except for the Emperor Angelfish it's still working on.

What's HILLE? And did you get your Halichoeres chrysus locally? It's beautiful (and looks very healthy).
HILLE is an acronym for hole in the head lateral line erosian (a fish disease). All of my fishes came from LFS's. Most of my corals came from other reefkeepers but a few came from LFS's.

Great tank and photos.Living art an apt if overused phrase that certainly applies here. Continued good luck with it.

thanks, Tom.
I'm celebrating 14 years of reefkeeping this month.

:celeb3: :celeb1: :celeb3: Congrats Gary!!! :celeb3: :celeb1: :celeb3:

I was getting my driver's permit 14 years ago this Nov. 16th. Reefkeeping came a bit later.

Fourteen years I'm jealous of all the fun you must have had. I was in a job that didn't leave me time to do things I wanted to do . I retired about 6years ago and discovered this hobby. I've been at it for a little over 5years now pretty much full time. Interestingly, I have been blessed with good health for all that time not even a cold. Congratulations on 14 years and thanks again for sharing your experience and ideas.

How about some waffles to celebrate?
:D
Nick
how ironic- I picked up some Wegmans cinnamon Belgian waffles today. MMMMMM!

I'm happy that people here appreciate me being around. RC can definitely help lessen the steep learning curve for those folks just starting a reef aquarium. I wish there was something like RC for me 14 years ago!

Did you even have an internet back then? Or did you just slam two rocks together hoping to get someone's attention? :D

Congrats on 14 years, buddy. That fish is stunning, as always.

Thanks, Marc.
No internet for me until 2001... the year I discovered Reef Central.
Before RC I gleaned info from books, trade magazines and a handful of other local reefkeepers that I knew of.
Kurt- some of my original livestock survived with me right up until last year (2006). That's when practically everything I had perished in our move to another house. (If you search RC for past threads on oldest Acropora, anemone, etc. you'll see my posts.)
I considered throwing in the towel at that point. It still hurts to think about what I lost. Some of that stuff was irreplaceable.
The good news is that (thanks to RC) many people had frags of my corals and I was able to re-grow them.
After all these years I still get really jazzed about coral reef stuff- but you folks already know that :D

Gary, how would you feel about giving us a walk through (with pictures) of your plumbling and equipment from your drains down to your basement. I know that you showed off your drains and a bit of your downstairs setup right after you set up your new tank, but I would love to see your sump, skimmer, pump, rodi unit, top off system, water change "area", etc.

Thanks!!!

Sorry to hear that Gary, I had two fish from the first tank 7 or 8 years ago that I just 'traded' away due to temper of one and size of the other (pre-upgrade..she was too big for the 75g). The only remaining items from the original 45g tank are the BTA which is now turning green and some mushrooms and zoa polyps.

Are you coming out to Buffalo tomorrow? If so, I can clip off some of the pink Poc your interested in.

Gary, thanks for your perseverance, it is a pleasure to watch a tank like this grow. I am sorry if I missed it in the thread, but could you please post a list of the current fish population?

Gary, if your are ever in my neck of the woods(buffalo) stop by and I can snip you a piede of that yellow sponge.

Mike- as soon as I get a few spare minutes I'll put together some pictures of my system.
Tom & Kurt- unfortunately I won't be coming to Buffalo tomorrow but I'm definitely interested in taking you up on your offers. Thanks- I really appreciate it!
