New Carpet Anemone

Hi! I just bought a huge green carpet anemone today and put it in my tank after floating it. It was fine at first, already attached itself to a rock and was partially open. I checked on it a few hours later it has fully closed up tightly. Should I be worried? Or is this normal with carpets? Thank you! The picture is when I first got it home.

Yeah carpets like to burry their feet in the sand and attach to the bottom glass or sometimes the bottom of a rock. Mine picked a spot where two rocks meet. Attached to the bottom glass and has been there for 5 months now. Moderate flow.

No it is not normal for them to close up like that. You should plan to treat him with antibiotic. Good luck with him.

I not an expert but that doessn't look like a healthly anemone... Mouth are too open and it lay too flat on the sand bed... It would ck or test your water.... And it look like not enough light...

Ok. It looked amazing at the store and they said it was healthy. He seems to be digging deeper into the sand so I'm hoping that's good. I agree that him having his mouth open doesn't seem good. It has me concerned. I have dual t5 lighting.

You don't have enough lighting for long term health. However, depending on what lighting it was under at the LFS and how long it was under that light, you may need to acclimate it to stronger light anyway. If it survives, it will need more light.

The most likely cause is your water condition.... Because to change from pic 1 to pic2 in a few hrs.... That is most likely your water....

+1 to get treatment going asap. He does not look healthy at all. ready the stickies on cypro treatment.

Here it is now. More open and not flat. What is the medicine I would need for it? And will that harm my other corals (mushrooms, waving hand Xenia, and Kenya tree) or my fish (Niger trigger, coral beauty, and black volitan lionfish)? Thank you! I am brand new to anemones so I am needing a lot of help.image.jpg

Did you float it and then dump it in?
