New carpet feeding

Well I lost my battle with the LFS bought carpet. My wife just had to have it,against my better judgement. Well anyways I decided to try and get a healthy one to start with. When it arrived the mouth was still tightly closed. Im on day 3 and it still looks great, never gapped. The mouth does show a little crack of white now and then but that doesnt last long. Im thinking of feeding it and got some raw shrimp, that Ican soak in selcon. Do you think its to early to try and feed it,and is raw shrimp OK.Icould steaal some the wifes cooked shrimp if need be. Any thoughts.I tried to post this under the carpet thread but it got buried. Will try to post a pic later.

THNX in advance

Well I would wait for better advice.

I would think feeding would be fine. Raw shrimp so long as it is fresh will probly be fine. I would not feed it a cooked one Period! I feed mine silversides and spray it with mysis from time to time. I also feed mine on the second or third day i got him.

Post a pic when u get a chance

I like to wait before feeding -- just to make sure that it is fully settled in -- eating takes energy. And when you do start to feed it, make sure you start with small pieces -- easier to digest. I would stick with raw.

Its been 3 days.Hasnt moved from where I placed it.How much longer should I wait.Im excited to see how well it eats.(Like a kid in a candy store). My computer geek left for a while will try pic later.
THNX again

I know it is hard to wait, but I would wait until Wednesday -- it won't hurt it to wait.

And assuming that it is a Haddoni, I have seen them go downhill after 3 days of looking great. IMO they aren't the best shippers.

All of this is assuming that you had it shipped to you.

Agree with the small pieces. If you do use shrimp, cut it up. When they feed in the wild, they are not eating large prey usually, but small crabs, fish and tiny shrimp. A good gauge is to feed morsels that are about half the size of the slit to their oral disc. I have 5 carpet anemones and I feed mine shrimp and they have been thriving on that diet. I will occasionally feed them a xanthid crab or two, but that may be harder for you to come by unless you have a source like I do. The shrimp should work great.

After several days and it have not deflated then I would feed it. Shrimp about 1/2 cc would be OK to start with. If no problem then you can increase the size of the food. How big is this anemone? If it is larger than 6 inches, then 1 cc would be fine for first feeding.

Perfect reply from all. Will wait till weds.Yes it was shipped. And will start with small pieces.

THNX
