New Carpet Yay!

Just got this carpet this afternoon and extremely excited. These pics were taken right after we put it in, and now all the lights are off. One guy at the LFS didn't know for sure, but I'm saying it's an S. Gigantea.

Thanks. Is bleached a bit but the foot is in excellent condition and mouth not open at all so I'm extremely optimistic.

Well after about 30 minutes of putting it in my tank, it creeped straight up on the rock wall a couple of inches and has stayed there so far. I increased the flow to it and so far so good.

Still trying to decide on how or if I should acclimate it to my lights as there are numerous suggestions on acclimating them over a week or so, then there are suggestions on just having the lights on from the get go. All great suggestions from extremely experienced people.

My lights are two 175w MHs, two T-5 atinics and my tank is 22in high. The MHs sit about 6-7in above the water.

It varies on what type of lighting they were in previously and how long they were in it for. If it came straight from the ocean, than acclimate it. If it has been in a tank under similar lighting to yours for a month, than it really doesn't matter IMO as they have been in the enviroment for a while already and if damage was done by that, than it already has been done.

Well it didn't come straight from the ocean, but don't know exactly how long it was at the LFS. I came across this one in a tank that had a huge carpet that stole the show, but really wanted a small gigantea.
It did move up a few inches from the spot I placed him in initially, which was a hole in the sand I dug out at the base of the rock, after about 30 minutes in the tank. It hasn't moved since and appears to be anchored in the rock.
I decided to turn both MHs on but I raised them up about 5 inches. I will lower them over the next week as long as things are going good.

Giganteas are rock anemones (versus sand anemones). He'll probably continue to move up the rocks until he finds a place with bright light and high flow. He looks really good so far, however he is completely bleached. Looks like he might be a green or a yellow, once he colors back up.

Thanks Bonsai, and I agree on him being very bleached. I see kind of a neon green in it now, but could be yellow too, that the camera isn't picking up. He is getting some good, indirect moderate flow right now so hopefully won't move higher as yo see the tankmate right above. But I'm at the ready to move them if necessary.

Any suggestions on when and what to feed? I have frozen krill right now, but thinking of getting some fresh shirmp.

Based on what I have read here on RC, it is a good idea to wait a week or so to feed a newly added anemone. I just got a haddoni and fed it for the first time after being in my tank for about a week and a half. I got some fresh, uncooked, peeled shrimp from my grocery and it ate a small piece very quickly. Going to give it another peice tonight and then wait a week to feed again. The gig is looking better already. Good luck!

Thanks for the input, greech. My intent was to wait till the end of the week to feed him, but when I was feeding the fish some Mysi, a nice sized piece, for mysis, road the current and landed on the carpet's tentacle. It rapidly took it and and proceeded to munch down. So glad to see it was interested and had an appetite.
