New Carpet

I been lurking for a while, so i thought I'd contribute something. <p>I have been looking for a Gigantea for a while, maybe 6 months or so. One of the guys at the LFS has been on the lookout for me at the wholesaler's and he finally gave me a call on Monday. He said he had a real nice Merten's carpet that just flew in from Sumatra or some crazy island. Mertens? Wow. I drove to the LFS right after work to take a look. It was a beautiful neon green/yellow with an orange'ish pink underside and foot. He said I could have it for $100. I jumped on it and took it home immediately. So far its looking good. As of this morning it has expelled some zooanthelle, its mouth hasn't gaped open like they do, and I havn't seen it deflate once. I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see how it does in the next couple weeks. As far as the species, I'm wondering myself if its a Merten's or a Gigantea. Here's pics from yesterday. It's only under a single actinic t5 bulb right now while it's acclimating, so the color is kinda off. Is it really a Mertensii? Let me know what you think. <p>

I know Haddonis better, and I can tell you that it isn't one of those. It looks more like a Gigantea to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if I am wrong.

Hopefully Phil will chime in, since he had a Mertensii in the past, and should be better able to ID it then me.

Very nice, can you get a pic of the anemone without the actinics on. Appeared to be gigantea but after seeing the vescues possibly mertens. I agree with Todd lets hope Phil responds.

It's a Gigantea. I have one just like it, only much smaller. I wish it were a Mertensii

How do you know it is gigantea for sure? I think that we need to see a shot that shows the underside all the way down to the foot, and under daylight bulbs....

Because I have the same color variety of the same species. Even if I didn't, everything about that anemone looks Gigantea. Here is a pic of my Gigantea.

Thanks for all the comments guys. She's not cooperating today so I can't get a decent shot of her underside with the daylight bulbs on. It is however looking very good again today, the mouth has stayed closed and its not spitting out anymore zooanthelle. I also have not seen it shrivel up at all and seems happy. As soon as I get a decent shot of the foot under daylight bulbs I'll post it. <p> As far as the clown goes, she is part of the welcoming party if you will, to make the carpet feel more comfortable while she gets moved in. If things go well and she makes it, I have a pair of Chrysopterus waiting to take the occelaris' place.
<p>One question: How slowly should I take the light acclimation process? I was thinking I would slowly add more light over the next two weeks. Is that about right? Or should I speed up or slow down the process.
