Got a new pair today...the little fellow is being a bit shy but here is the female. She is about 4.5 - 5"

DSCF0532.jpg

They are in QT being treated with pipzine as a precaution. She seems to have a bit of a white mark on her chin. Not sure if it is from the shipping bag or what yet...so just keeping an eye on her.

Both ate some pipzine soaked PE Mysis, though didn't really "attack" the food.

Just blogging it for the most part...

very nice. These are such beautiful fish. The female of the pair I recently acquired was touch and go for nearly 3 months at the LFS. She has really perked up since being moved into a peaceful tank with her own anemone to wallow in. Good luck with them!

Thanx Maww, they are still doing well today.

Seem to be exploring the Q tank pretty good. Still haven't eaten a whole bunch, hopefully soon...

good luck with them, If all turns out well let us know how you did it. I have tried twice and both times lost them dduring QT.

Well, they are not looking real good today. The little fella expelled a large chunk of white stringy poo. So yes, parasites. Pipzine still in the tank with them and a new dose tomorrow.

Also did a 5 - 8 minute formalin dip at about 3 times strength...

They seemed a little better afterward so we'll see how they are tomorrow. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Steve, you need to up that dip to 50 min at about "1 ml/2.5Gal" at this point. I would perform another dip tonight, along with a 100% WC vacuuming the bottom of the tank. Best of luck, my friend :(

Steve,

it's 1 ml per 2.5G, not 2.5 ml per G. Sorry about that!!!! :(

No worries- I caught it...going to do another today. Still not doing well. Damn I hate WC fish. Even pretty ones...

EZhoops- I got a few boxes last year when you could still get it. I think it was MOPS...not real sure now.

Lost the female, just too far gone I guess.
The little guy is still hanging in there are seems to be doing a little better. Did another formalin dip, and did a 100% water change. After two days of Pipezine, he is now on Maracyn II at twice the regular dose.

One difference in them I noticed...after the first formalin dip the little one expelled a huge wad of white poop stuff (I guess) It was not the normal white stringy poop I am used to when treating clowns. It was more of a glob and stringy on both ends. He was almost imediatly more active.

The female never expelled anything that I could see, and stayed pretty lethargic to the end.

Just blogging really...thanx for the help folks.
Got your PM Marina- Really No Worries I caught it ( I actually red it as intended and not as written) go Figure...! :D

I'm going to inject a little heresy here. I think QT on these guys causes as much harm as good. It is clear that they are extremely sensitive to environmental stresses. IMO subjecting them to the added stress of medical treatments in barren tanks is too much for them to handle. My experience with 5 of these fish has been that putting them directly into a well established permanent tank works well. I have lost one to apparent disease, one to carpet surfing(after more than a year in the tank), and have 3 happy healthy bluestripes. To drive the point further- the large female of the pair I just acquired had been battling various infections for the 3 months she was in the LFS tanks. When I got her she had fungus eating away the edges her caudal and pectoral fins, and one eye was swollen and severely clouded. She now has no fungal infection at all, and the infected eye has nearly healed. She was introduced directly into a tank which has been up and running for about a year. It has a 6 inch Cryptodendrum adhaesivum, 2 small LTA's, and a new haddon's carpet added for her. ( Lost a large H crispa which I had added just prior to her arrival). I moved out a pair of pink skunks to make room for them. The tank also houses a scopas tang and copperband butterfly- both of which the big girl is now busily bossing around. My feeling is that the fish are captured healthy, and succumb to opportunistic infections due to stress. Exposing them to continued stress only makes matters worse. If we can put them into a non-stressful environment they stand a good chance of regaining health on their own.

MAWW, sometimes I tend to agree with you. IF this pair doesn't work for me then they next pair will just be added to healthy reef tank.

Sorry what is MOPS? is Pipezine something most LFS carry, cause I can't find it. Any other AnitBiotics I could use?

thanks

They don't sell Pipezine anymore. You could try Hex-a-Mit as an alternative.

True-

I keep Pipezine (while it lasts), Furacyn, Maracyn II, MelaFix on hand at all times.

I will not be needing any of them though for this pair any more. The little fellow gave up this after noon.
Maybe in a month or two I will try again.

sorry to hear about that, who did you get the fish from? I am thinking about getting my next pair from LA as they have a 14 day guarantee.

Not heresy at all, but it all does depend on the pathogen you are starting with ;>)
