New Coral

DLANDINO

D.L. Heritage Rings
This is the coral I picked up from Milford Coral today. There are 4 polyps on the frag and it looks beautiful under actinics standing nearly 4 inches per stalk. I know these can be an invasive coral if left unchecked but I have it on a new, stand-alone rock and hopefully it will stay put. From what I understand these multiply fairly rapidly so frags should be plentiful in the near future.

Hi Kev, no, I thought an inceredible deal. This frag had four polyps on it and when open they are about the size of a quarter. Alll for $15!!!

Hi Peter, it is a clove polyp, common name. Here is a link to one of my favorite coral care sites, Asira.

This coral really is a stunning animal. It really stood out last night under actinics and moon lights. I'll put a "daylight" pic up tonight.

Cool! Those in the genus clavularia are not really that much of a nuisance and dont spread nearly as quickly as those those little blue guys and those in the genus knopia, which is probably what you are thinking of. These are also much easier to frag and tear off a rock if need be.
Good luck! :)

Lovely. They act a lot like zoas in terms of care. Drip a bit off when it's time for a new one, and it sprouts up like a baby palm tree. Mine tend to do better in lowish flow areas as the stalks are pretty fragile.

Its true the clove polyps are like zoos in that they grow on a mat. The frags I did came out great. Easy to frag. They grow fairly fast, but not like xenia. Also mine liked good light and good water flow.

what did you think of his store?

I liked it, there were a lot of frags to choose from, everything looked healthy, no nuisance issues from what I saw and I always look for flat worms, nuisance algae, cyano etc etc. All clear. I would recommend a visit if you have never been there.

Ive been there. The owner, Bob, has actually been around for a long time. He had a store in a different location in Milford years ago.

Was Bob actually there when you went in or did you deal with the guy with all the tattoos?
