New Deodronephthya sp. study group?

I say no as I have never had a cut frag to live. Even when it was barely hanging on. I say let it frag itself. I have found moving them to a new spot for a couple of days and then back, seems to make them frag. Just don't do it to often or it will frag to frag size. I have not tried any frags on my tank raised ones as they are slow growers.

And no right now I am not willing to dig to the bottom of the rock work to get them out.

I am however going to be redoing my rock in the next couple of months and take about half of it out.

I totally filled the tank when I had pc lighting. now I have MH and pc plus T-5 so I don't feel that all the rock is needed so I want to lower the rock level (height wise) in the tank and have it only about half way up in most places with maybe just a couple of tall ones for the really high light corals.

Trodder- great to hear of your success. What's your average temperature? When it frags itself put me down for a trade.

Bumpedy-Bump !

I'm not keeping dendros, so I can't offer advice or results, but it is a fascinating subject. I hope this thread will keep running.

Thanks for all the info thus far. > Barry :)

Hey everyone,
I just got my Dendro yesterday. Currently skimmerless and will be feeding the 5-50micron GOlden Pearl and some seafood blend (as you guys suggested). Thinking of starting a phyto culture too.

Mine hasn't been around long enough for me to offer any empirical observations yet, BUT, here's some photo for the Dendro. fans :D

Wow very nice, hopefully there's enough here for you to keep it, I have seen a few at LFS's but just dont have the courage yet. Good luck and keep us posted. The closeups are great how did you get them?

I've not worked with the Ultrapac. However, there's lots of colloidal and liquid feeds from the shrimp industry- I've worked briefly with one. Nutrient management has been a problem for me.

Does anyone have the capability to contact Peter Wilkins? In his older book, he notes some four year success with Dendros; aaccording to Anthony Calfo, he spoke with Peter a year or so ago for a long conversation and was told that he has maintained dendros for 10 years (!) by stirring sand.

It would be wonderful to hear from him. Anyone know how to do it?

Charles

Just wanted to plug for a new heterotrophic coral forum again. It seems as though 2 forums are dead and RC hasnt quite figured out what to do with the space. Looks like a good place for a new forum. :)

Dendro/nonphotosynthetic Coral forum is a plus and maybe can help unravel its mystery! Great Idea! I hope to see it on the forums page soon.

Thanks,

Rick

After talking to David IÃ"šÃ‚´ve posted this

It would be great... good luck for all "dark reef" lovers! ;) we will wait a replay....

C'mon everyone Jumper got the ball rolling now we all have to post interest in his thread in the feedback forum. They're already contemplating a softie forum it may not be such a big deal to do a second one at the same time, plus I think our forum deserves more attention. :)

If anyone who's responded to this thread is out there. More support is needed for a new forum. Please respond to the linked thread.

This stuff just popped up in another forum. I'm curious if any of you dendro keepers have tried it, and if not would anyone be willing to try it. I still have not purchased a dendro otherwise I would give it a shot.

Hmmm, if these corals had their own forum this question would probably be open to a much larger specific audience especially given the length of this thread.

no I have not tried it. If they had samples, I would try it, but I am not willing to spend that kind of money, on a food that is unproven, when I have had dendro doing fine for almost 3 years now.

Glad to hear your dendro is doing well -amazing-. Just wish I could do it. Thanks for the response on the food. At the LFS I visited yesterday they were fiddling with some sort of invert food. I wish now that I had gotten the name price cause the label looks familiar.

Mary:
If you think that that is a dendro that you have (not the true one I gave you), then it's the same thing I have in the 125 display wave tank. As you know this tank has 3X150 DEs plus actinic and has roughly 4000 Gph flow in it. It also has a tunze wave box and now gets fed cyclop-eeze. Everything I have seen has said dendros are a lower flow creature, if it is a dendro then something not quite right IMO.

okay firefish2020, I do agree that is what everyone has thought, but mine do better with more flow. and even the last one you gave me is doing very well I have one in each side of the 90 and they have poylps out almost constantly. They are at the bottom of the tank on the sand and doing very well. And the flow seems to be pretty good where they are when the wavemaker kicks the extra pumps on. And yes I know it appears to be the same thing in the 125 gallon. I was the one who told you they needed all the flow they could get. They are the same as the others posted on this thread. So whatever they are at least we are all talking about the same thing here. JMO
