New gadget: calls out if power fails

Folks,

Since I looked a long time to find something like this, I thought you might be interested. I just purchased ($93.00 on Amazon.com) an alarm console that monitors for power outage, cold temp, and flood, and calls 3 phone numbers to alert people about the situation. This unit is designed for people to monitor their vacation home or primary residence while they are away, but it will work good for our uses as well. I have a friend stop by to feed or check on my tank while I'm on vacation, but I'm always nervous that he may not be there in time if the power goes out and he is not aware of it. Check out this product if you have a similar need. I have tested it and it worked well and was very easy to program.

seems pretty cool! is there any way to use the temperatuere alarm as a probe thermometer into a tank?? .. jsut wondering if you could rewire it or something to alarm if your tank temp drops or goes too high... I really like the water detector.. good sensor for a leak...

that's cool!

but does it tell you when the light in your refrigerator goes out too? i mean every time i open the door, that light is still on!

unless of course the power is out? but then how does the unit send you a signal, without power? my last power outage was 5 days. And the phone line was dead too.

I guess I'm just a low tech kinda guy.

can it send smoke signals too? or would that just be my sump pump running dry?
