... The sad part is I have never actually seen an anemone capture and kill a live fish. .....

... Hadonis are famous for eating sick fish .....
Haddoni are notorious for eating fish period. Not sick fish just fish even the 8-9 inches tangs that are kings of their tank until they meet their demise at the hand (tentacles in this case) of Haddoni. Most fish will not survive an encounter with the Haddoni even if the manage to escape and avoid being eaten. They usually die of the injures within 24 hr.

I never said that hadoni's can't eat healthy fish. The likelihood of a fish becoming Hadoni food is much greater if the fish is ill. Most healthy large tangs like you described learn very quickly not to mess with a hadoni. My wifes yellow tang has been living in a cramped 55gl tank with a large hadoni for years with no problems. She had a 4" hippo tang for a long time until it got ich.(I know, my bad for not having a qt tank) Her hadoni ate well durring that ich outbreak. Many others here on RC have had similar experiences.

Here's a picture of my haddoni today

How do ya'll think it's looking? It always seems to have sand on it as if it regurgitated it. Could it have had sand in its stomach from before I got it, or does sand get on top of it and the look like its molded together

It looks like it has alot of potential. Seems to be a little withdrawn and faded. What lighting do you have? Try reducing the sandbed around him. This may keep some of the sand off of him. Maybe this is why he is withdrawn. Why has he been shrinking back into the sand? What and how often do you feed him?

I just now had a succesful feeding of a piece of silversides. It's under a t5 150w MH combo. I'll be buying a new light next week though.

not enough power??? Well I'm getting a 150 gallon in a month or two so I'm going to start buying the new MH now, may as well put a more powerful one over my current tank for better light

There's no such thing as an anemone thats to big. You could have just got him a bigger tank. Thats what I have to do for my wife now.

I could of got a bigger tank but that's not what I am focusing on.

Marc Price, I know what you mean. I lost many fish to may blue Haddoni.

Who here knows where to buy a blue or purple gigantea??? I'd sure like to know an online vendor where I can find one, I have raked the internet but cannot find a thing

I think you should practice on the Hadoni. When you get him darkend up and growing well for a while, then start thinking about the Gigantea. The Gigantea will be much harder to keep happy then the Hadoni.

I definately agree with elegance on Austin on this one, ATX, you need more experience first. Gigantea anemones I would say and so would others is the hardest anemone to keep alive. Focus on your Haddoni for a while because Giganteas are 10x harder to keep alive, literally.

Oh I'm not planning on getting a new anemone any time soon. I just want to know where to find one when the time does come in a year or five :)

55:
I don't think i would be the first, i believe it has been achevied before, but not by home aquarists. Since they are live brooders, i plan on trying this in either the 240g cube or the 300gal stock tanks i have in my garage for frags. Obviously it won't be for frag's anymore. I am still researching and am having trouble finding any concrete information but i hope putting a few together and hoping for a male and female will work. I have to talk to shimek and calfo more about it than i have already.

Atx:
I do plan on having offspring, with the limited success of captivity with this animal, i really do think it is a great step in the right direction and hope to be able to accomplish it in the next few years, if not sooner.

illcssd, if you ever do achieve your goal, let me know. I wonder if captive bred Giganteas would be easier to keep in captivity?
