New Green Gig!

Wow, so I don't know what just happened since the last time I posted pictures, but I think he's starting to feel more comfortable... Bulbous tentacles are going away VERY quickly, and look at this shag!! Holy crap, he got bigger, and shaggier..... He is also moving his pedal a LOT more now.

Also while I was watching his pedal get pushed up and down with the current, I was able to see some purple verracue under there, not terribly pronounced, but it's certainly more visible. Wonder if it changed colors or became more pale because he was stressed?

Mouth is nice and tight, pucked and looking great!!

Now that's a gigantia! LOL. It looks like he turned the corner and its good time from here on. Nice pics too.

I agree that is a Gigantea also and also agree that he is doign a lot better. I bet you breath a lot easier seeing him like that rather than before.

Oh I sure am Minh, trust me.... it's amazing what just a little bit of time does and allows these guys to acclimate... I was shocked to see such a quick turn around as I walked by, had to do a double, if not quadruple take.

He is changing shape much more now and looking not quite so rigid as he was now that his tentacles have expanded, so I take that as a good sign too.

I just fed the purple gig scallop soaked in selcon, and offered the green gig some, which was gone instantly, now back open within moments, tight mouth, and looking outstanding.

What's interesting is, I have people say that Green Gigs are a dime a dozen, and blue\purple are really more prized.. i have to say, if their colors are like this one, it's just stunning and I think in my taste the prize. The green is intense.

Looks more like a Gig now:dance:

Congrats:thumbsup:

Thank you! You really had me worried when we didn't see much in terms of the foot\column, but he is absolutely looking more like a Gig now :-) I'm glad you were wrong, lol otherwise I would've been heart broken..

I have to say though, everyone I know locally (besides Robbie) does NOT have a green Gig... There are plenty of blues and purples, but no other greens that I know of.. This color is wicked, just hope it continues to stay this color! It is certainly hungry.

So interesting observation... My LEDs are 100% from 12-3 an that's about when he looked the most shaggy, around 3pm he wasn't quite as shaggy but still somewhat shaggy. It's just interesting to watch him acclimate to the new lights.

Like i was telling you in PM... IMO green's are harder to find than blue's and purples, i run into blues/purples all the time, it took me the longest to find a green one.. :P but your's is looking good! :)

So far nothing special to report. I have been feeding him small pieces of scallops soaked in selcon ever other day, which the nem takes immediately... Hasn't moved, hasn't deflated, same size and I have noticed in the morning when the lights aren't so intense, he is more Gig like, then when it's super bright he's more condensed, and then when things start ramping down in the afternoon he goes back to Gig.... This guy is SLOW to acclimate, but as you can see, mouth is as tight as could be... So far so good! Color is still excellent.

I spoke too soon, he's "Giggy" now :-) When this guy recovers completely, should be a beautiful specimen!

Alright so just an update and lesson for Gig keepers watching carefully as their new animals acclimate..... This is time #2 that they have worried me for no reason.

Last night as I was walking by the tank, I noticed my Green Gig didn't look normal, he was contorting in shapes, closing up a bit and had me worried I needed to get QT ready again.. I turned feed mode on for a bit and eventually he settled down and was fine...

Well this morning, guess what, he just had some indigestion.. He ate a crab or snail. The same thing happened with my purple gig and scared the heck out of me. I would be uncomfortable as well if I had just eaten this thing and was spitting it out...

My gigantea's are adept at eatting snails. They eat fish too. I lost a mandarin and a flame angel to my Gigantea in the last 6 months

Yea, this is the first I've seen the green gig eat anything, but our purple is a beast.

oh yeah i have been there before mine has eaten a leopard wrasse and a huge turbo snail

Well, it's not so much a problem to have them eat things, I was just heightened regarding the strange behavior last night... He's looked consistent since he went into DT, but last night the contorting, and weird closing up like he was moving freaked me the heck out...

Chances are, when I saw him acting weird, he had JUST eaten the snail\crab and was trying to figure out how to shove it into his gut.. I was really hoping he wasn't deflating, moving, or in general needing cipro treatment..

They eat snails? What happens with the shell!? They just let it roll out after the inside is disolved?

They just spit the shell out it land at the foot of the anemone. Mine got a grave yard of snail shell there. I got a lot of baby trocus and stomatella that he ate.

I'm just relieved he wasn't sick or deflating and the weird stuff he was doing yesterday was related to the snail.... looks awesome right now and getting shaggier than ever!! Can't wait to see this nem in 3 months.
