New H. Mag Anemone

Thanks. I haven't noticed any deflating since the first day.

However, the anemone staying on the sand concerns me. I have a hospital tank already set up, and a prescription for Cipro in my hand.

Do you recommend putting him in the hospital tank even though I haven't noticed any deflating?

Or should I try moving him to different rocks to see if he'll attach?

If I am you, I would treat him. add something in the HT so that he attach to something. Once he is doing better, bring him back to DT, attached to something and put him in higer flow area.

I agree, I have 5 Mags and they NEVER go to the sandbed unless they're sick. They like to be up on rocks, overflow, high on glass. They love light and a lot of flow! Something seems wrong.

Mine loves high flow. It sits next to a covered mp10 on rc mode 100% I would be a little concerned if he won't attach to anything.

My two never moved since I put them on the tank

And my beloved Purple feet Mag

This is on the day I put her on the tank. Today it's fully extended and it's over 1 feet diameter.

Well, I had a meeting yesterday evening, so I wasn't able to get the anemone into the HT. I will be doing that tonight, along with Cipro.

Today, the anemone is back on a rock, but definitely looking deflated. Definitely going into the HT tonight.

How important is good lighting while in the HT? I have a 175 halide I can put over it, but that'll require quite a bit of work.

Yep, I knew something was wrong when he was on sandbed.

I think light is really important when the Mag is being treated. In my experience, without light they will deflate a lot of the time and hang down low especially when on the glass. Or ball up. When the light comes on, they instantly respond and perk up and inflate which gives them fresh water.

I watch mine and if they act like the light is too strong, I'll cut it off. Or run it for a couple of hours and off for a couple hours. Some do not tolerate light well if extremely sick and others seem to do better. I guess it depends on the Mag.

I did end up putting the 175 watt halide over the tank. Anemone perked up a little, some of the tentacles got thicker.

Problem is, I went out of town unexpectedly this morning. No time for the usual water change. So I just added a full 500mg cipro to my tank this morning. Tomorrow evening when I get back, I'll do a water change and add the regular 250mg.

Wait. You added the cipro to your display tank?

H. Mag died...

H. Mag died...

Well.....it died. Never attached to anything in the hospital tank. Started sloughing off tissue. Ended up siphoning everything out of the tank and tossing it.

I think one of the main problems is the fact that this happened at the worst time possible. During the first 4 days of treatment, I had a meeting and went out of town. Basically only was able to care for the anemone 2 days out of 4. If it was any other week, I would have been better.

I have a bunch of cipro left, I'll try again sometime.

Sorry to hear that bro. They're tough. If you would have been there, I'm sure he would have done a lot better.

Good luck to you on next attempt!

Thanks, guys. This was the first ritteri that I've seen in person at a store. And I've been looking for a while. I may have to order one online
