I feel kinda the same way Stonkers does on this. I would hate to give any business to the panty bunching troglodyte who caused all the problems. Its not really fair to punish the good guys for the actions of a couple of jerks so I hope the facts come out at some point.

I believe you when you say that the LFS's go in the red on livestock sometimes but, why should I pay 300-400 for a mysteri wrasse when he buys it for less than 60? That's a pretty big profit margin. I know his fish hotel doesn't have turndown service and complimentary liquor cabinet so it must be the extremely high quality water that he's charging us a 500% markup. I don't think he's going to have a glut of mysteri's (or any high dollar fishes) anytime in the near future. So why try to deny us the capability to obtain these fish? I believe he's under the impression that if we buy a mysteri from Alex that he's losing $200+. Nothing could be further from the truth because I would never spend that kind of money for a fish from a LFS unless it came with year warranty.
Nearly every fish in a LFS has a 300-500% markup. It is a fact. The markup covers the large % of DOA fish that they get when they make their orders. Most suppliers don't give an "arrive alive" guarantee and so the LFS has to eat the cost of that fish. Guess what, it gets passed on to us. The thing that gets me is when the stores charge $40 for a $15 fish because the LFS "quarantined" it. The store who is whining should just go unbunch their panties and get over it. Do they cry to the other vendors that we do group buys from as well?

There lies the problem. If the LFS's would buy aquacultured fish rather than buying wild caught, they would have an extremely low % of DOA fish. But since wild caught fish are so cheap on paper, they like the look of the price better.
Is it better to buy 100 wild caught oscellaris for $2 each and have a 50% death rate? Or is it better to buy 100 aquacultured oscellaris for $4 each and have a 5% DOA? Assume that he will sell them for $15 apiece. He could sell his remaining wild caught for $750 giving him a profit of $550. If he charged only $11 each for the aquacultured oscellaris, he could still sell the remaining fish for $990 which would give him a profit of $590. That sounds like a better deal to the customer and more profit for the LFS.
Most LFS's will probably still go with the wild caught because they are only $2 apiece.

Petsmart??? IF they ever had the type of fish we are ordering, would anyone buy it? Sorry, I know they are trying, but please be serious! I can see how Alex would not want to lose their business however.
