For the operation of an Mitras-Simu-Stick the Mitras-Simu-Driver is required and a GHL ProfiLux controller.

Awesome! 55cm might be compatible to a 24" T5 replacement.
Any info on the type of LED being used here?

Nick I can't find anything with LED specific data but one thing we need to note is that this is a "supplement" to existing lighting. This is from the GHL website directly:

Mitras-Simu is normally used a an effect-lamp in addition to the main illumination and is not made to replace the main illumination.

I also plan to add this to my tank as supplemental to the main lights. The difference is my mains are LED so this would handle the sunrise, sunset, lightning, and moonlights which my LED can't manage.

Hahaha. Jumped on the LED bandwagon and went back to MH awhile ago. I don't want to mess with my main light on my system anymore since it's doing well.

That's a good question. I would "guess" you're right in it would be redundant. We'll wait for AD to make the official call on this.

unless you are wanting to add MUCH more blue for example you have no need for the new simu sticks if running Mitras.
