Got a New AF-S Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6g ED VR lens and am happy with some of the pictures I got. Let me know what you think

nothing I've refined very much but here are some quick shots I took. I will be taking more soon when I have a few hours to play with it.

I got a whole lot of good fish pictures though, the speed and resolution was significantly better then anything I've used thus far.

Have you looked at adding an external flash such as the SB600, or higher. I use it to fill in the shadows and get more of a natural color out of the corals. With the flash head location further away from the lens and the smart flash capabilities controlling the intensity you can get some great shots. I have played around with it a lot using (S)shutter priority, adjusting the ISO and keeping the shutter around 80 - 120.

awesome everyday lens, just saving my pennies to get one.

keep posting the pics :D

I actually don't have any external flash, even though I've been wanting one for a while. I do have a underwater strobe though with nikon strobe capabilities that I haven't tried as its part of my canon underwater gear, but I will! :D

I'll take some more pics and see how they come out. Will post the decent ones once they come.

looks great. im glad your enjoying your lens and your happy with it. all i can say is wow.

but, i think you would be much happier with a canon. :P

yea, im a canon man...

oh a canon man, well then i suggest a canon vs. nikon thread to see what we come up with.

And I think you would be happier with a Nikon BTW :D

My underwater Digi cam is a Canon and I'm very happy with it... but don't tell anyone.

exactly. Post your favorite pic and what camera you are using. Would be a good chance to compare makes and results.

I've seen it on another forum and the results are interesting. Would be cool with a larger user base.

Very cool and a nice lens, I was very close to buying the same one but just couldn't do it, I already had a 18-70 and didn't think it was quite worth the money as a replacement. Did you use the 18-70 previously? If so how do you find it compares?

I had the 18-55 kit lens that came with the body and it doesn't really compare with this lens.

I ended up destroying that one so I finally got a replacement and the purchase was pricey but well worth it and a nice upgrade.

Thanks.

Still haven't had a good chance to play with it some more but hopefully tomorrow. I'll post some more once I have something worth sharing.
