I don't even worry about feeding a new nem at least a week to let it settle first, unless it's bleached and needs it.

Typically it's deflation of tentacles you should be watching for when new.

Looks fine, let it be.

It may go to highest rock maybe, depending on your lights, or flow sometimes a factor

Thing is : I had no intention of buying a mag just yet. I went to my LFS yesterday to pick up a $3 net..and left with the mag. It had been in the store's new 220 gal DT for 3 weeks perched high on a rock doing fine. When I walked in it had moved from the rock and climbed onto the glass and moved up high in the tank. They had another mag for sale in their "anemone tank" but it didnt look so well mouth agape, etc...so I played dumb and asked the LFS employee if he would sell me the one in the DT ...he said ok...The owner of the store was out doing a service call and had he been there -I doubt he'd sell it out of the DT(i've tried before with other nems in the past) ..Soooo...I made the impulse buy of the century...now I just hope it survives...Ideally - it should be qt'd with cipro-but since it was in the LFS for 3 weeks looking great and since I had no hospital tank prepared,or cipro on hand -I put it right in my tank...Fingers crossed...I'll try and take a pic of the mouth later today..it was tight but not 100% closed....

Man that is the exact color my LFS in TN is holding for me. I really like that foot color as I have had many purple bases and tan bases in the past and just wanted something different (I may be 80 yrs old before I find a red one). I think the white/cream base is really cool. I bet that color form will be wicked under some led actinic and given 6 more months to get established. Good luck and congrats!!

Looks great! My mag definitely didn't eat anything for weeks after being shipped, you should be fine. I also never feed my mag (it gets accidental bits, and 400 PAR of light).

I think you could probably prep for a cipro treatment just in case (like have a tank, nem proof powerhead, and cipro). Best case, you never need to set it up.

Thanks for the good words , Kinetic...I always admired your tank ...I just ordered a new LED fixture to provide more light...currently its under 96 watts of t5ho...not enough IMO.. next going to 150 watts of pure LEd...and if necessary -I'll add more light in the future

If you can, find a PAR meter to measure exactly what the anemone is getting. I was beaming over 440 PAR onto my mag, and it still was reaching a bit. PAR isn't everything, but you'll be able to get a good sense of what it's getting! I think a mag will need at least 200 PAR or more if you can manage it.

UPDATE : MOUTH looks pretty good now. I fed the clowns small pellets and the anemone ate one...next day I fed it a nice chunk of fresh squid. It devoured it ! I think this mag's a keeper....

sorry for the giant pic ..dont know how to shrink it...Pic of the mag under a new LED I just got . light is way more intense than the T5's I had it under...it has now expanded to about 12" in diameter under the new stronger light...was about 9" before.
Eating silversides now on a regular basis...

I would not risk silversides, way too many nem keepers have had problems, including myself.
Mysis, scallop, raw shrimp are all much better choices

If the food is not fit for me to eat, then it is not fit for my anemone to eat.
Nice anemone. Don't feed him too much or he will quickly out grow your tank.

I never fed my mag. It seems totally fine with occasional pellets, poop, and light.

Anyway, hottuna, the mag is looking great! If you feed it too much it'll definitely outgrow the tank ;)

Hey , daveocean can you elaborate on the problems ? I used to feed it squid, but it spit out the last piece...then tried silversides.it devoured it.
i am a fishernan and catch alot of fish most of the yr ...how bout a small piece of fresh fish filet ? (bluefish, rockfish, drum, flounder etc)

Fresh fish do not smell. Silverside being small frozen with guts intact spoil easy. Being pet food they do not get the care they need in transport. Also if they happen to get thawed out who ever in charge of them at the time just refreeze them.
Because of all of the above more often then not by the time these silverside reach your anemone’s mouth they are not likely spoiled. Spoiled food will cause your anemone server problem if not killing them.
In addition to this, the price of silverside at the LFS is about as much as sushi grade fish.

Bad food that can kill anemones at an outrageous price. It is a wonder that they sell any.

We eat fish and seafood a lot. I just cut off odds and ends for my fish and anemones. Great food at almost no cost to me.

Yep, what Minh said.

Many years ago I fed silvers to my nems, and I had seen comments about them causing harm, but did not think much of it having used them so long, but when I fed 3 healthy LTA's and watched all 3 contract, detach, and just melt away, well, that was the end of that.

Too many safer options, not worth risk

Good to know about the silversides. To date, I have only feed my nems market shrimp. I have been thinking of buying frozen silversides from Petco. Good thing I didn't.
