New Magnifica Deflating Daily and expelling black pieces

I picked up a magnifica because I was able to get it cheap (wholesale) and have strong flow/lighting. It came in stressed from shipping with insides protruding from the mouth but had pulled them back in and fully inflated by the morning. The mouth also tightened up and it looked great. That was a week ago.

I've noticed though that for the past few days it has been deflating and opening it's mouth (looks awful) in the afternoon and expelling black pieces with some slime and re-inflating later in the afternoon. I didn't have cipro or anything else ready to treat upon arrival and the anemones I've gotten in the past have been fine without treatment. I currently have a Haddoni and 3 RBTAs in the tank.

I'm continuing to watch for it's demise so I can remove it as needed. You can see a few of the dark pieces in the deflated pic.

Hi curt,

Overnight Cipro, and you can save him.

Keep your lighting on, but at very low level.

Keep him in high flow area, but not to where he's getting thrashed around.

Leave him in the DT until the Cipro arrives.

Google fishflox. Buy the 250mg 25 count.

When It arrives, dose 500/mg to 10/G for the first 24 hrs and then back off to 250/mg.

Make sure you do daily water changes, and if real cloudy, do 12 hr water changes.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Mags are particularly susceptible to presumed bacterial infections so that your 3 prior BTA didn't require treatment really has little bearing. Read OrionN stickie here on the anemone forum for treatment approach. Inflate/deflate cycle will likely end with a pile of goo.

I'll try the treatment. I have a green Haddoni in the tank and had a blue gig for 2.5 years and lost it in a tank crash and subsequent move.
