Hey guys

I hardly ever do anything on here except ask for help, so i think i will finally actually contribute something.

I got two maxi minis (along with some other stuff), and they just got here yesterday :D

Here's a pic of them acclimating.

The red ish one was a wysiwig and the other one was a non-wysiwig (which i am satisfied with; note the orange which i am hoping will brighten up a bit in my tank :) )
What do you guys think? I'll take some more pics tomorrow when the lights are on.
I have never had an anemone so this is exciting for me haha

They seem to be doing alright in my tank. They were running all over the place earlier tonight. I'm a little concerned about the white one because he seemed to lose some of his stickiness and he kind of "let go" of the rock a little bit, but i will see how he is tomorrow (mouth is not exposed or anything). Maybe even bleached? I'm not sure.

They don't look bleached in the pic. These are tough little anemones. I wouldn't worry to much about them. They will/should stop moving around once they find a comfy spot. Sharp little anemones. Congrats.

Maxi-minis are (IMO) as close to bullet proof as you can get in this hobby. I've seen them thriving in horrifically cared for tanks. I have 2 in my 75g and I really like them. I have a sexy shrimp that hosts in one of them which is fun to watch.

I got them from cultivatedreef.com they have some really nice maxi minis from time to time (it seems like they get some new ones every week or so).

Of course, the maxi minis moved all over the place last night. The lighter colored one kind of dislodged from the rock i had them on (probably the highest point up in my aquarium) and he fell down to the bottom of the tank ( i was watching all of this to make sure he didn't get stuck in a filter/pump intake), then he almost immediately started moving around. He only had to move about 2 inches to find a nice piece of pvc that's helping to hold up my rockwork. So he's been there since last night. He seems happy right now even though he is getting almost no light due to being under an overhang (i'm sure he will move again soon).

I tried to take a picture anyways even though you can't really see him, but i couldn't really get a good pic.

I have absolutely no clue where the other one ended up haha. He kind of just disappeared. He wasn't moving much last night, but then this morning he was gone. Hopefully he'll turn up soon so i can get some pics of him.

can you guys tell how excited i am to have these guys? haha

Lol thanks for the info! Even though they moved they look really good!! Im glad that the lighter colored one seemed to find a good spot!:spin3:

Im glad that the lighter colored one settled!! They look good!:) Thanks for the info! :) Good luck with your maxi minis! OOPS POSTED TWICE LOL!!

From my experience, mini-maxis are nearly impossible to get off rocks once they're attached. You may want to figure out where the other one is and move the rock to where you want it to be.

I have 21 maxi mini's (my other addiction in this hobby), & IMO, your white-ish one looks bleached to me. Feed it some PE mysis, krill or small pieces of raw shrimp a few times a week & the orange should color up nicely. I'm anxious to see it in a month or two. Post more pix soon. Good luck!

Nice looking Maxi-minis. Hopefully you can find where the other one went and move the rock to a good location.

I have a red one in my nano (the one that just spawned) that hosts a Sexy Shrimp too. If you don't have any large wrasses or other fish that might eat one, you might want to pick up a Sexy Shrimp for your two nems. They are small, but really cool to watch - mine's almost doubled in size in three months and it's amazing how much ground such a small creature can cover.

Cheers,
K.

D: bad news, the white one died today. This is a huge dissapointment for me, because i had a maxi mini a few months ago that got sucked into a powerhead and never recovered, so i was hoping to get some healthy nems and be able to keep them alive.
I'm not sure what happened. The anemone never really found a place that he liked and every day he was in a new spot in the tank. Yesterday he wasn't looking too great (shrank a little bit) and he was stuck to the side of the tank, then this morning i found him all shriveled up (the size of a nickel) and dead ]=

I still have no idea where the other one is. I hope he's doing ok, but for some reason that seems unlikely to me since the white one was moving so much (and then died). Any ideas on what might have went wrong? Here are my parameters

SG: 1.025
temp: 77 degrees F
Calcium: 420 ppm
PH: 8.2
nitrates: 0
Phosphates: .25 (could this be the problem?)
Ammonia: <.25 (could this be explained by the nem dying? or is that too insignificant?)
nitrite: 0

Also i'm almost certain that my hydrometer is broken, so i will be buying a refractometer very very soon.

]=
again, hopefully the other one is doing ok. Moving rocks in my tank is a huge pain so i will have to just try to find him without moving rocks around.

oh and in the next couple months i will be upgrading to a 75 gallon tank, so when i do that, if the other maxi mini is alive, i will move his rock somewhere visible.

from doing research on maxis, cultivatedreef just frags his own. i have bought 5 in the last month from petco, of all places, and have plethora of colors. with mine i temp acclimate and just toss into my 12 gallon nano.

are fragged maxi minis bad or something? I've heard a lot of mixed things about fragging maxi minis so i'm not really sure whats true and whats not. Even if it does cause long term damage that wouldn't explain why it didn't do well in my tank
