New naokoae and bathyphilus

ohh brad that attenuatus is gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!

see! now i'm envious because attenuatus doesn't come by here at all.

bathyphilus will be shy initially but given time will be quite brazen. he will leave your attenuatus alone.

grats on the bathyphilus arriving! do remember to update :)

You guys are killing me. I keep telling myself "no more wrasse" and then you post these beautiful photos. Ahhhhhh! Now I need a wrasse fix.

Brad and Lemon,

Do your flashers continue to flash? I've kept flashers in the past and they usually seemed to stop flashing after the first few days? I currently have a McCosker's in quarantine and he has stopped flashing and seems to have faded a bit. I had two McCoskers but lost one for unknown reasons.Thanks.

I have 4 flashers at the moment, 3 Mckoskers and the one Attenuatus and they still flash at each other. Not as much during the day, but after my halides go off and just my T-5's are on, thats when I see it the most. I plan on adding a couple more down the road. I love them because they are so small and seem to get along with the others and are always out showing off.

flashers tend to flash alot when new, but when settled down, less.

I counter this by adding more than 1 male of the same and diff species. this increases the likelihood that they will flash at each other, like the photos bradley has posted.

they also tend to flash more when the brighter lights go off and the tank is being lit by actinics.

Help...
Do you guys know if I can peacefully keep a mystery wrasse and an exquisite wrasse / the mystery wrasse has been in my tank for a long while.

There is a real good chance that your mystery wrasse will be very aggressive towards a new fairy wrasse. They tend to be very territorial and don't like newcomers. I would say there is a 75% chance it wont do well with the mystery.

i had the chance to obtain a very large male solomon island filamented flasher wrasses.

P. filamentosus (Solomon is. Var).

a total of 15 specimens arrived, all about 3.5-4 inch long. very beautiful with the yellow dorsal fin which is unique to all the other filament variants.

but mine did not make it in qt and died 3 days later. most of my other friends reported the same thing. must be a problem with the shipment.

i hope to obtain one again in the near future :(

I thought I saw a thread here on RC, that the hooded won't get along with the flame....which is the reason, I don't have a hooded yet! Have you heard different?
I just ordered a 'Johnsoni' pair, hopefully there will be no problems with the rest of my rather large wrasse collection.

I have had a hooded before and there was never a problem with those two together.
They are similar in color, so I can see how it could happen though.
I'll let you know if the problem occurs.

brad, that's a gorgeous bathyphilus! efate island variant from vanuatu!! looks just like mine.

do you have problems with fairies and flashers just getting lost one day? I hate it when some of my wrasses just decide to go MIA after awhile.

Though it has not happened in a long time and all the time, once in awhile they do and i get very bummed out!

one of my 2 african mccosker's just went missing..

I have had them do that. My last one was my nahacky. I was really bummed when he decided to disappear. But what do you do? We can control their environment, but we can't control their lifes.

so true. hate it when that happens. but being wrasses, i guess that's what they do..

you will get to enjoy your hooded. i've added a female a few weeks ago and that was the best decision i've ever made.

the male flashes everyday and omg i can honestly say, a flashing vanuatuan hooded is one of the nicest displaying cirrhilabrus. in my opinion anyways.

the entire orange part of the body turns a bright lilac colour and the head turns blood red. all fins also turn red and the tail is outlined in violet! so so pretty.

but he swims too fast for my caveman camera.

It would be nice to be able to find a female. I don't think I've even seen one for sale around here.
Mine is chomping at the bit to be released, I think I'll give him another day in solitary before I release him into the jungle. But he's eating great and is full of energy.
I took some more photos today and caught a couple of nice shots.

And one I thought was really nice of my blueline that I've had for a couple of months now. I know it's off topic, but thought you might like it.

bluelines are gorgeous. i had one in my old tank before.

no such things as off topic in my thread! hahaha. i love angels and butterflies as much as wrasses.

i've never seen female bathyphilus before too and they're hell rare. my LFS ordered some bathyphilus from vanuatu previously and they brought in 19. however NO MALES! and all 19 were females. i brought home one.

another LFS had previously brought in 4 female bathyphilus from australia too.

so i've seen females of both australian and efate island variants and they look identical.
