Very cool Lemon. It's amazing to me to see how aggressive yours is compared to my timid hooded. I think mine is a bit overwhelmed in my tank with all of the larger wrasses.
I'll post some new pictures later.
mine is very peaceful but when it starts flashing....
even the chromises get chased at. as you can see, the female is so terrified of him! he had her in the corner for most parts of the video. and there's a part where he did lateral flips at her.
it's the first time i've seen fairy wrasses do that.
I wish I could. I'll have to get my wifes camera out and see if I can try to take one I like.
I tried to talk her into a video camera for xmas, but was shot down.
For some weird reason, she thinks I take way too many pictures of my fish already. LOL
another video of the testosterone laden male hooded wrasse. this time the video is shorter but you can really see how he's just all over the female.
part of it is cut off as it made a complete round with the female around the perimeter of the tank. only the beginning is shown and finally when it reach the end.
it's interesting how it stays very very close to the female when he chases her. his nose to her belly and they complete one round around the tank.
i tried taking photos of it flashing but it's impossible without a good DSLR camera or at least one with fast shutter speed.
i only managed these pictures of it at the cooling down stage of it's display. the climax is even more beautiful than this with a bright yellow belly and fully expanded fins. blood red dorsal and yellow anal fin.
the cooling off still retains some of the nuptial colours which is, predominantly, a lilac hue over most of it's body except for the "hood"
i love the lilac colour contrasting with the red hood.
