New NHL Rules OT

Are you smoking something Hawkfish?? Please share, I want that same feeling. He is good but I don't know if he's that good.
Brian

I heard on FOX31 that the Avalanche will match any and all offers on Hejduk, Tanguay, Liles & Aebischer. That leaves us with Foote & Forsberg. Please take less money. The thouht of them playing somewhere else just sickens me. If anyone can get it done, Pierre can.

Just read this.

A report in the Swedish newspaper Expressen quoted Forsberg saying he wanted to play on the same team as his friend Markus Naslund. The Avs have exclusive negotiating rights with Forsberg until next Monday, when he and Vancouver Canucks star Naslund could become unrestricted free agents.

Is that worth dumping Foote, Tanguay and Hejduk to get those two. I think it might be but I would just about anything to keep 21 in an Avs uniform.

Brian, I heard that about Forsberg and Naslund, also. If they wish to play together, they will have to do a Kariya and Selanne type deal for much less money than even the cap would require and they would want to go to a team that has a chance for a cup. I think Vancouver is not going to let Naslund go. They will get him signed, especially because Bert is going to be absent and then hamstrung as we discussed earlier. Vancouver only has a few high dollar players and can entice Naslund to stay. Remember, they keep some of a players money in escrow to go back to the owners if revenues fall below a certain dollar amount so IF a team has few "stars", they can afford lucrative contracts to these players. It is the Avalanche, with so many top dollar athletes, that will struggle to keep everyone signed even though their club is bringing in alot of money. This is some of the "parity" that the owners wanted. It assures the money losers of being able to sign big contracts with top stars yet lessens their risk of money losses. (I think some clubs will lose money no matter what they do. They are poorly run and should be relocated.)
I have a 'feeling' that Forsberg will get signed. I think Foote will be released. Breaks my heart but the new Avs are going to be all about speed and offense. JMO

the new Avs are going to be all about speed and offense

Because the Avs keep believing that the league will enforce the holding penalties. IF they ever do, then the Avs sure will be amazing to watch.

Well, thats what alot of the new rules are trying to assure. I agree that the clutching and grabbing will continue unless the ref's blow the whistle EVERY time and EVERY game. We will see..... And yes, if obstruction is ended (or at least minimized) then the Av's will be awsome to watch. Did you see who Detroit released today? Ha Ha!

I like to watch hockey, I would probably like it alot more if I understood it more. Thanks eveybody for the info in the thread. Some of the grey areas arenow coming to light.

OH yeah, Brian please continue with the OT threads. I enjoy your "back woods" adventures and pictures.

Funny thing, I actually "learned" hockey through watching my husband play on playstation. It really helped because the announcer on the PS used the same phrase every time the same thing happened so it was easier to equate a play with a rule or a call. The first full season I watched of the Avs I also watched/listened to a full season of the PS game!

Now hockey is the only sport that I can listen to on the radio (in case of "emergency" if I am unable to watch on TV). I am so amazed that I can hear it and picture the game in my head. That just doesn't happen with me and any other sport!

Christina, that is because most game announcers talk about sports in general but not the play going on as most sports have short periods of action with a lot of lag time inbetween (football and baseball are the worst). Hockey is continual action involving all players on the ice and it MOVES so the announcers are having to describe what is going on continually. Many people do not understand hockey the first few times they watch it but I can usually explain to them the few basic rules that hockey has, what the fouls are and some simple stratagies in about 12 minutes. I have everyone I work with in the lab understanding the game very nicely and some even now know the difference between a left wing lock and a neutral zone trap! It is really a simple game. And fun. I do think that it is hard to watch on TV at first. You need to attend some games (lower level, college or even the local teen teams) to really see the whole ice and watch the flow. Then your brain can fill in the gaps when watching on TV. They say that HDTV will benefit hockey probably more than any other sport due to the expanded view area. Haven't seen one on a HDTV broadcast yet (it isn't available in Greeley). I imagine learning from playstation would work quite well! I've never played NHL on mine. (I'm a FPS kinda girl) Radio is only ok when no TV is available as the announcers can not really keep up with all that is going on and thus just describe whoever has the puck. Plus an awsome check into the boards just can not be described. It must be seen! And heard!
Article in todays paper makes mention of Naslund wanting to play with Forsberg. They (the Post) suggest that Vancouver has more cap room to sign both than the Av's do. THAT would REALLY suck. I can't even begin to think of Forsberg playing for the Nuks. EWWW!

I got to see a couple of games way back when the last season was in HDTV and it was incredible. I also watched the HD college games last season and its really not just the expanded viewing area. I now realize that my brain was kind of filling in where the puck was with visual cues such as player positioning, etc. In HD you can see the puck. I cry when I have to go back to the old technology now.

I had a hard time figuring out the rules at first because the calls are so inconsistent. Okay, that holding, but only if a ref sees it and cares, and not in the last five minutes of a close games because you don't want the refs to decide the game, and on and on. As if the refs aren't deciding a game by NOT making calls. Hmph.

I read that too Patty, that will be hard to handle. Not sure which team would be worse, them or the Wings. Brandi is a huge Forsberg fan, I joked with her about him playing for Detroit and if she still could be fan of his. She said just about anybody but the Wings. I need to see if my local cable company has any type of NHL or NFL packages. Hey Patty, do you know who the 8 signed players for the Avs, I guess it's 6 not counting Blake and Sakic.
