New Nitrate theory

----25 days to go for me and I'm dreading it.

When I was your age Capn, the whole world was different.
Now I understand everything :D

I feel better, and am in better shape every day and can't wait until I am Waterkeeper's age. 70

BTW, to tweek a DSB you may need to ask him that. I will get myself in trouble with that one ;)

You're a hoot, Paul. And I never would have assumed you'd never gone to college. I find you to be a very practical intellectual and your incorrect perspective refreshing. :)

Still, not all of your analogies work for me, thus I feel you draw conclusions that I myself would not. We do however agree that none of these systems are perfect and that the best solutions are the product of emergent properties that evolve and then reveal themselves over time. I'm of the belief that everything is true and no one is right.

Scott, man, you're old. I feel like I should be feeding you guys jello and checking on your oxygen supply. :D

you understand everything--including Whys:confused:

Okay then Paul--how would I convert one on my remote deep sand beds to a reverse underground---I like to hedge my bets;)

Scott, what's to understand? I have an above average intelligence that I do not use to my full potential. I spent my childhood challenging my sunday school teachers, always asking uncomfortable questions. I spent my teenage years seeking the meaning of life. Looked to science, then western philosophy, then eastern philosophy, then I found it and was woefully disappointed. I'm a compulsive rethinker, obligatory contemplater, and impulsive debater. I've been known to write poetry. I've been known to toke. I do not seek to make a point as much as I seek to find one. Found it, then married her. I've been programming since I was in 3rd grade. Started teaching myself web development back when the internet was dial-up. Gained all my writing skills online. Met my wife online. Earn my keep online. My father is a multi-millionaire, but I live in self imposed exile from both him and his money, as we do not understand one another. I have a family I speak to as little as possible; it's nothing personal. I have had several friends, but keep none. My interest is only in thoughts. I flunked out of college but got an 'A' in therapy. I am happy today, and that's a pretty big deal. My wife is now Pregnant with our first child. I hope it is a girl. In time, I will likely bore of this hobby as my mind eventually bores of everything. You will no longer see me when that day arrives. But I have enjoyed our exchange of neural impulses. I believe human civilization is a single living organism and the internet is its brain. I am but a neuron and every conversation is but another sentence between me and god. I like you, because yours is a kind and considerate soul.

It's all quite simple really. :)

Coming to the end of another long evening, as I rarely keep regular hours. Please review my diagrams and add any necessary corrections. Peace out.

Capn, why not use both, add a remote RUGF, put it inline before the RDSB you may get the best of both worlds, since the water will be prefiltered before going into the RRUGF, and post filtered after comming up through the substrate you will have a never failing RDSB, and Paul can boast that hes found the secret to a 30 year DSB......an RUGF

Still, not all of your analogies work for me,

Whys, they don't all work for me either :D

I atribute most of my successes to my failures. Anyone can learn something in a book that was written by a guy who read a similar book that was written by another guy with a similar book etc. But the guy who wrote the first book is the guy with the brains, the rest are just coppiers.
It's like when I meet someone who says he is a sportsman.
I say, your not a sportsman, your a TV watcher :D .
The guy playing a sport is making millions because there are "sportsman" willing to pay to watch them.
I am not much of a watcher, I am a doer. I love SCUBA diving but I would find it extreamly boring watching someone else dive.
(unless it was Christi Brinkly)

Anyway as for college or the lack of it, sometimes it is better if you do not go to college. I was a construction electrician for 40 years and I am now retired with a pension and free medical for the rest of my life. If I had gone to college I would probably have been an electrical engineer making half the money working twice the hours and when I was 65 or so I would retire with no pension or benefits :eek1:

I did however had to go to school for most of my life. You always need to learn and due to laws and lawyers you need formal education for certain things.
In the military they sent me to school to climb poles (really beneficial) repair radios, command, and shoot things. After that I had to go to apprentice school for almost 7 years, then I had to take refresher safety and high voltage courses my entire career.
Then it was an asbestos abatement course then a SCUBA course then a Merchant Marine Captain course.
I am now finished with courses and only learn what I find interesting, which is most things.
I even have a patent for a semi useless brine shrimp feeder.
What is this thread about?
Oh I remember, Capn, you can not convert a DSB into a RUGF. Not gonna happen. You need gravel for a RUGF. I only use sand to mix with concrete. ;)

Whys me, the Capn and Waterkeeper also spent a lot of time programming, only we called it erasing in a note book.
Thats a wireless cardboard thing with paper in it. :p

you might want to explain what a telephone is too while you are at it Paul;)
without a lie Paul I had a student in Grade 10 who could not tell the time on the wall clock because it wasn't digital.

I have in mind of taking down the one dsb and making a reverse underground filter--just asking how I would go about constructing a rugf in a 30 gal tote

this is exactly what I am thinking of doing.;)

It is simple making a RUGF but in a rubber tote you may have to build the plate yourself out of a plastic plate of some type unless you have some 1/4" acrylic.

And yes, telephones used to have a dial and there was a wire coming out of the thing. If you are old enough you would remember that there was a straight wire attached to the receiver.
Yes phones were in 2 pieces.

I seem to remember two tin cans invovled--what happen to them?

Thats what I use, why, did they change them? :D

part of going green policy. I believe the phone company is going back to issuing flint and a blanket instead:D

What is it like being 60 Paul----25 days to go for me and I'm dreading it.

Like, you I prefer practicalities here--although the theory is fascinating and enjoyable.
that said
Suggestions on how to tweak a remote deep sand bed?

 60. I didn't know I was playing with a couple of kids . 63 in 5 days.

As for theory and studies. Theoretical hypothesizing is of limited value. However, when someone actually tests and measures in a controlled setting and is careful to limit external variables, I think we can gain real information (facts)that will last a long while. Facts are nice to have because you can think about them and combine them in interesting ways ; play with them and create your own theories with some foundation.

Yes, I am the youngest here. You can ask my Father, Waterkeeper

I am still technically 59;)

I don't know why we are worry about deep sand beds here---we might be dead before they have to be changed:lol:

Theoretical hypothesizing is of limited value.
I think we should debate that first. What facts do you have? Nevermind, we don't need those. :)

What we do need is some lime green jello. If I'm gonna be hang'n out in the geriatrics club, I demand lime green jello. Then we can talk. :D

We pass those around at Buffalo Bill's games in cube form laoded with vodka.

As long as I can get some raw oysters with that Jello it's fine :D

Listen you youngons, I am probably still in better shape than all of you ;)

At least I put oysters in my post to keep it about inverts, which produce nitrates to keep it in line with the thread.
