Quick question...maybe it's a stupid one. With non photo synthetic coral tanks, it seems obvious that for the most part lighting is for aesthetics. My question is, are the corals open while the lights are on? Or, do you have to wait until the night to view them at their finest?

For the most part, non-photo corals will adapt to whatever feeding schedule you have for them. Whatever time you tend to feed them, that is the time they'll tend to open. If you use a continuous feeding scheme, they'll tend to open up throughout the day and night. Though they usually open up mostly at night when you first get them, as this is the most active feeding time for them in the wild, most non-photo corals are adaptable to just about any schedule you give them. However, there are the rare exceptions, such as some Balanophyllia sp., that seem to require complete lights-out to open.

I keep the light for my tank on a regular daily schedule. For one, I have a couple of photosynthetic corals that need it. Also, I believe a regular lighting schedule is beneficial to the health of the corals even if they aren't deriving food from it. If anything, it is more natural for there to be some sort of regular lighting schedule (even if most of the tank is dimly lit during that schedule).

I'm having a hard time making sense of the translation - but it sounds like the tank has been taken down due to a crash, and he is not starting up again due to financial reasons? That's a real bummer...

From what I read on the forum through the translater program (google & Bing) I see the timeline of the tank was: tank was set up for about 8 months total, 5 months when the pictures were posted on the forum and about 3 months after that the tank crashed due to power outage. Due to financial issues the tank was taken down.
