New photos from my tank:)

This tank is a perfect example of a well fed and maintained NPS tank. I wish we could get some solid information on the care that the OP gives it. I would love to hear more about the setup and feeding. Merriq where are you?

All of this is so incredible! I am still stabilizing my tank but I want to go is this direction once everything is up to speed. I know that I will have to do the feeding and I am increasing toward the guide lines that you use.
Some time back, I bought a very small, sickly piece of this but it didn't make it. I am wondering what this is called and how fast does it grow? I'm not sure if I can buy a small piece and it will grow out fairly fast so that it will look good or if I need to pay the price for a larger size specimen to start with.
Also, how fast does the rest of the stuff in your tank grow as well?
Thanks

thats a blueberry gorgonian... extremely poor success rate even for an NPS... even though their polyps are large and they appear to eat, they are still missing something

wow... gorgeous tank.

post more photos, P-L-E-A-S-E

btw, do you notice your dendronephtyas growing ? ie, over time ?

Wow this is one of the best non photo tanks i've seen, does having all non photo organisms mean that you can have a minimal light most of the time and turn the lights on when you want to look at the tank? Please share some of your secrets.

I just got a yellow stalk white polyp gorg

You could try moving it to a darker spot. Otherwise clean up your water but feed a lot. There in lies the problem. :sad2:

I hope we haven't lost Merriq and Yoka! I haven't heard from them in quite a while on RC nor another forum we both frequent... they haven't even logged on since June!
can these types of coral be in a tank lite by metal halids?
Yes they can. They're non-photosynthetic requiring no light, and most of them are unresponsive to light. With that said they can trap algae on them fairly easily, and of course, high light + nutrients = algae. I would not recommend attempting most of these corals in a mixed reef with halides.

Yes, the "issue" with non-photosynthetic tanks and corals alike is their need for (near) constant food in the water column and pristine "SPS tank" like water parameters. How do you keep parameters at bay while feeding copious amounts of food? Simply put, very effective, efficient means of nutreint export. Definitely easier said than done, but this tank is a great execution of it. I really just hope that this tank is still looking great!

I am not even sure what clean water means for these corals. I think they are a lot more tolerant of high nitrates and phosphates, or at least phosphates... which we know is harmful to SPS... but they are prone to shut down when the water gets too murky for long periods of time, whether from food or bacteria. This applies to Dendronephthya as well. The gorgs are sensitive to large water changes, which presents a challenge since they require several feedings per day. Just my limited experience so far.
