All animals need phosphate to live, it is an essential building block of ATP and a fertilizer for symbiotic algae. It is no different than flouride is to you or me, too much will petrify your bones and poison your body, too little and you will be toothless before long. Most of these wipe outs from phosphate removers occur because you starve the symbiotic algae and any phosphate remover will do this- we just warn you up front. When your phosphate levels get real low just stop using the product.
