New Product! Current USA Orbit Marine LED Aquarium Light

Thanks for the response - I don't have nitrate problems - I check that weekly on two different tests. I have tested for phosphates in the past and have been undetectable but I can try checking that again.

OK I will play around with the settings. I will be upgrading my tank in the future to something bigger - a 5 foot wide tank and will be getting the dual pro model of this light. Then I'll be doing corals as well. Then I'll probably need more specific guidance.

Thanks for the input.

Received my Orbit Marine Pro today for my 45 gallon and the difference is amazing. My tank looks awesome, I love it and my toadstool perked right up to say "hello" . . .

My only concern is that I have a canopy on the tank and it seemed to generate a LOT more heat than my basic Fluval that was there. The wood on the canopy is hot and the fixture itself is even too hot to touch.

Normal??? I have it on the basic M1 timer setting right now, maybe I should reduce the whites a little? Looking to get more corals but was waiting for the light, right now it is just the toadstool.

Thanks for your thoughts, Maria

Hi Maria,

The extra heat is indeed normal due to the higher output/wattage. The heat sink on the top does help to dissipate heat away from the LED's.

If you are finding that a lot of heat is being trapped in the canopy, leaving the canopy slightly open to allow the heat to escape or adding a fan would be a good idea.

The basic settings do bring the lights all the way up to 100%. It would be better to slowly acclimate your corals by using the M2 mode for the first few weeks.

Would I need one or two of the 18"-24" original current marine fixtures to keep sps and anemones in the IM nuvo fusion 20?

Hi bmoore92,

1 strip would be fine for bubble tip anemones and lower-light SPS such as many montipora, seriotopora and pocilloporas. However, if you are looking to keep acroporas, get more coloration out of your bubble-tip anemones or other anemones that need more light, you would be better off with 2 strips. Also, the 24"-36" model would be preferable as it covers the entire length of the aquarium.

Hi Marine Depot,

My tank is 100 gallons and dimensions of 60"L x 18"W x 22"H. I originally purchased the Current Orbit Marine LED's but returned them since I changed my plans to have a reef tank with LPS, soft corals, and maybe SPS.

So now, in the market for new lights.

If I decide to go with the Orbit Pro's, could i supplement with either of the below?

- AquaticLife 48 Inch 4x54 Watt T5 HO Light Fixture w/ 4 Lunar LEDs or
- 48-60 Inch Current USA Orbit Marine LED Aquarium Light

FYI. I have a canopy and its really designed for strips, not pucks. Perhaps I should re-think and modify the canopy if pucks is the way to go.

Thanks!

Hi Coolxborg, Those dimensions sound pretty sweet! An Orbit Marine Pro supplemented with a 4-bulb T-5 lighting system should be a very nice combination. A puck-style system (such as the Hydra 26/52's or Radions) would work great too, but will be more pricey and require modifying your canopy.

Thanks for the quick reply! Now, i have to figure out the $ situation.

We offer financing with PayPal Credit if that is helpful. Basically you don't have to pay anything now, but you'll need to pay the balance off within 6 months or you'll have to pay the interest that accumulated since you ordered. It's a cool option if you want more time to pay and are confident you can pay the balance within 6 months so that no interest is applied.

Ok. Ill keep that in mind.

One question regarding the Aquatic Life fixture. Since its 48", im assuming its designed for that. Can the mounting kits extend up to 60" or do i need to figure out how to mount this onto my canopy or extend on my own somehow?

Dont have this questions for Orbit Pro since it extends out to 60".

Lastly, do you see any issues with only using 48" fixtures for a 60"L aquarium?

Hi coolxborg,

Easiest option is usually to use brackets or straps from a hardware store to mount the lights securely to the top of the canopy. As long as the canopy is not super short, coverage should be fine as the fixtures only have to cover an extra 6" on each of the two sides.

The Orbit Marine Pro does have legs that stretches out to 60". However, it would put the lights right on top of the tank which will not give you the best coverage/spread. Attaching to the top of the canopy would still be preferable.

Thanks again. I think these will work with minor modifications.

Now, i need to do quick research on pucks to see if its best to ditch canopy, etc.

Appreciate the help so much.

We enjoy talking tank so it's our pleasure!

Wow so not much of a difference in just buying two separate units. I would have guessed $150-$200 less than the doubling price. So $799-$850.

This is the information we currently have: which may or may not be finalized. We will know for certain once we receive our shipment in a few weeks.

help needed with settings on a nanocube

help needed with settings on a nanocube

I'd love some assistance figuring out the best settings to use with my 28g nanocube. Long story short it was a intermediate LED stock tank, but the stock leds never worked very well. When we moved about 6 months ago I went ahead and gutted the hood and installed 2 of the 18-24" orbit marine led strips (I was told 2 would be needed on another forum for LPS & softies). I'm thinking that was incorrect... I took frags out of my T5 70g tank and immediately had issues. Even running the two currents at 60% acclimation setting my zoas refused to open, my shrooms quickly melted away and the LPS closed up and started melting away/dying until I put them back into the 70g.

So... if I wanted to keep both in the tank (more even lighting that way and I already have both) what settings would you use for LPS & softies (zoas/shrooms)? What intensity, duration, etc. Or would you definitely recommend only using one, and then again... what settings would you recommend?

Thank you very much!
