new sebae pair

My LFS was redecorating a display tank, and decided to sell off the fish in it. I scored this sebae pair. They are about 2 years old, came into the store as juvi/small subadults and were placed directly into the display. She is just shy of 4 inches, he's about 3 inches.

They look like they both have HLLE. Anyone out there seen this/ had experience with this in clowns?

I have seen HLLE in clowns before. I have no idea on how to get rid of it. I'm not sure that once the progression stops, if you can get the tissue to regenerate or not.

Thanks for the comments on the clowns- they are pretty good sized. The carpet is a haddon's- just not your everyday color. It is recovering from having quite a few of it's tentacles grazed by my chrysurus angel- he got the boot for bad behavior.

I hope they will recover the tissue loss- they appear to look better after just a few days in the tank. The affected areas have darkened a bit, and the yellow color on the snouts has intensified a bit too. They are getting a highly varied mix of frozen and flake foods, and they have been nipping at the hair algae in the tank as well.

I saw a tang with what I presume was HLLE at an LFS...there was also an ich infested angel and a dead boxfish...and don't get me started on the freshwater section...so uh...not a store i'm headed back to. I can't stand a place that doesn't take care of their merchandise.

Lots and lots of saturation feeding with a good varied diet and they should come back just fine. Been there done that a couple of times.

JHardman, is it harder to bring back clownfish to a full recovery that has this erosion than say a yellow tang?

Easier only because clownfish are the pigs of the sea and will eat just about anything 3+ times a day. :D

It's not HLLE. Those are parasites, IMHO. FW dip for 30 min and saturation feeding should help.

Good luck.

thanks for all the input. They are being fed heavily 3-4 times a day. I'm really looking forward to the algae explosion!

Marina- I don't think it is parasites- the spots are air bubbles and spots on the glass. Also, they both appear to have clouded/darkened lenses, although they don't seem to be having any difficulty seeing food. Here is a closer pic which shows the problem much more clearly. I have also installed a UV sterilizer just in case there is a parasite problem.

Definately not parasites. Its HLLE. Look at the loss of tissue around the eyes more closely.

I'm working on repairing a pair of hippos with HLLE and a pair of yellows with HLLE. It's been a long way and I've still got a long way to go, but it's happening. As the tissue regenerates it's coloring up nicely also. I think just keep the water quality good and keep the food choices varied and you'll get them fixed up nicely in several months.
