New Setup 40gal breeders

Here is my new setup. A 40 gal breeder with a side 10 gal sump. Now its on the cycling phase, I'm using DrTim's Aquatics One and Only Live Nitrifying Bacteria to speed up the process, it suppose to get it done in 5 days, I will let you guys know the results.

Still need a lot of work to look good, but at least is running with no major issues, I still need get the lights and more rock, I will use this tank to experiment with different filtration systems and setup.

Are the tanks connected somehow? Can you explain how water moves from sump to tank and vice versa?

Congrats! Upgrading is the BEST

Simple physics, the white tube on the front connects the two tanks, like a water bridge.
A pump pulls water from the main tank to the smaller tank, since the two tank are connected thru the water bridge, as the water levels change, water is pushed thru the tube, trying to keep both tank at the same level.

Is the white tube full, like a siphon? If so, anything negative happen if the siphon is broken?

More than likely it would seem if the siphon was broken the smaller tank would over flow but from the looks of it because the inlets are so low the only way that would happen is if the PVC was taken out of the tanks.

Looks like the main pump for the tank is on the left side and it pumps to the back left of the smaller tank.

A toilet bowl float for top off???

Be careful about air bubbles slowly building up inside the water bridge, it can eventually lead to the syphon breaking. The higher the flow through it the less of a problem this is though.

Yes there is always a risk of the syphon to stop working, I will switch to a clear acrylic pipe to monitor the air build up inside, and I will install a switch on the smaller tank in case it overflows, it will shot off the return pump.

The main reason I did this way was to create a easy flow of copepods from the refugium to the main tank.

A toilet bowl float for top off??? Similar, the technical term is "adjustable plastic float valve" you can get those on amazon for $8
