New setup advice

Hi Roger,
Your advice has been invaluable to date so I thought I would ask for advice on my next setup.

I'm looking at one of these with the usb style controller and a safety controller. I already have a nano wavebox in the tank.
My main concern is the difference between a 6101 and a 6105?
My tank is only 50gal for now but times change. The vortech pumps made the tank thrive but I can't cope with the noise( actually my wife can't cope).
Regards
Ross.

You probably wont find many 6101s available as they were discontinued quite a while. I will say personally that 6055s would be much better suited for your current tank and that I think 6105s would look large in that size aquarium and would have to be dialed back very far to work.

Thanks for your reply.
I already have a 6045 in the tank and it barely moves any water. It also has a very narrow spread. The hope was that the 6105s would have a greater spread and allow for the storm mode to operate effectively.
Even with the 6045, 5000LPH ehiem compact return, nano wavebox and the vortech MP40WG2 (going flat out) the flow in the tank was only just enough to effectively stir up all the detrius. The SPS love it and the LPS and softies look fine when it's over.
I ran the vortech at 3/4 speed on random mode for weeks with all the other pumps going and have never seen the tank look healthier. The only downside has been the noise from the vortech and the initial mild cyano bloom from all the muck that had been hidden under rocks and subtrate.
The 6105 has the same sort of specs as the MP40 flow wise. Is the flow nice and broad?
The next tank will be at least 80gal so I want the pumps to be strong enough.

The 6105 is much stronger than a 6045, the flow is three times greater. The flow is more focused than the Vortech it covers a roughly 6ft by 2ft area. I think this pump would be a good choice but on a 80 gal you will likely need to turn it down a bit.

I got my hands on the 2x 6105s with the 7096 controller and I've gotta say they are awsome pumps.
They are both running in a 50gal tank at the moment while I build the new tank. They are easily dialled back and are a vast improvement on the older models. Love the new rubber mounts. I'm so glad I went with the 6105's over the 6055's.
I have read about people using the 6205 covers for wider spread. Is this legit?

It is possible, it will cut the distance the flow covers though by quite a bit, the width of spread will increase by about 50% and the distance the flow covers will be cut by a bit more than 50%.
