New Store in Green... Got Fish?

Has anyone else checked out this store? Prices seem pretty cheap. Not quite sure of exact address, but its in a plaza right off Massilion road behind Subway. It is across the street from the fire station at the intersection of Steese and Massilion Rd.

Very few dry goods as of now, the place is very new. I went there once, didnt see anything that stood out but maybe in another couple weeks/months it will get more stocked. The owner did seem like a nice guy.

For them it really depends on the day..some days you can go in there and find tons of new stuff..other days not so much. They are pretty nice there and will tell you what days they are going to get shipments in on. Prices are decent...selection had been a little slim lately which I think is partially due to the economy and they just don't want to hold onto a lot of stuff.

Here is what these stores have to learn, when I go into a store and look for something I dont want to hear "we can order that for you.'' Thats why I went to the store, so I dont have to order it. This is 2009, I can order anything online that I want, get it delivered to my house, and save money. Now, I support the LFS but will never have them order anything for me. If these stores continue to not stock things, people are going to get into the habit of ordering everything themselves and not going into these stores. I know when I need bulbs I go to a store to get them, when I am there I look around and usually buy other things that I didnt intend to. If you dont carry the bulbs I'm buying, I dont go in and buy everything else, so not only are you losing the bulb sale you are also not getting the $100 coral/fish sale.

Hi All,

You know you are right. If I go into a store a few times and find little stock(live or otherwise) I usually won't go back until I hear some good reports on the store. But when you are starting out there is a fine line between having a fully stocked store and cash flow issues. Until the customer base develops(which sells product) it hard to hold onto all that inventory. Most vendors want payment in 30 days so unless you can sell quickly it can put a strain on your finances. Scary business starting any kind of retail store in todays economy.

Second what Burgman said, except that livestock wholesalers get paid in advance rather than 30 days. Also, a new store is going to be COD for dry goods with any pet supply wholesaler. To stock tanks to the level of Salty or AT it could easily cost $10-$40K.

I stopped into this store today. The tanks were clean and the store looked layed out ok, but I'll bet there isn't $1500.00 in total stock, live and dry in the store. They did say that more marine fish were coming in Thursday, and that they were waiting until Summer until the tanks were established before they get any quantity of coral in. From what I saw, the fish were all very small. Not a knock, just an observation. If they survive, they are in a great location to capture Akron, Canton and Massillon business.

Where is this store? This is the first time I heard about this, you hiding stuff on me Zach? Might have to check it out, just to say I went there.

Yes, I saw their 4 blue damsels and thought I would hold that secret from you ;-)

Its down Massillon Rd off 77 a few miles. It might turn out to be a nice place and the owner was a very nice guy. So new it doesnt have a sign yet. He was drip acclimating stuff the day I was there, I thought that was a good sign.

From Akron, 77 South to Massillon Rd. Rt 241 South. About 1.5 miles there is a plaza on the left. There is a Dollar Store, Subway, Gyro Shop, Pizza Shop, etc in the plaza. If you see the fire station, you went 1 block too far.

I am going to Massilon later this morning and could check it out on the way back, just detour over toward Canton. Would that be the right direction? Does anyone have a store name, address, and phone number? Maybe the manager's or owners' names? Thanks.

to get there you want to get off at the massillon rd exit on 77, just one exit south of arlington rd in green. go south on massillon rd until you hit the plaza on the left.

I would be coming from the southwest from Massilon. What about heading east toward Canton and north on I 77?

Still get off at massillon rd, a few exits north of belden village. Then go south on massillon rd. Not sure of the name plaza it is in, everything has changed since I lived out that way.

If you are coming from Massillon or jaskson, go north on Rt 241 (Wales Rd.) Go throught he Village of Green. Past the Tex Mexican resturant (Panchos). When you get to the traffic light at Steese Rd. the Plaza is just ahead on the right. Look for Subway, Dollar store etc.
