New tank underway

As I told some of you, I had plans for a wider tank because the 18" width of my 150 was really starting to bother me. Well as of yesterday things are really started to move.

The stand arrived on Saturday and hopefully the tank will be ready in the next few days.

I hope to start a proper build thread soon, but for now here's a preview.

real nice stand. Im assuming that is where it is going to go because of the side shelving? If so I really like that location. Good luck!

erbgo, it'll have outside dimensions of 72" x 36" (width) x 22" (height). About 6" of the length will be reserved for overflow and pumps etc, so should be 200 gallons or so before sand, rocks, and coral.

No basement here unfortunately, so its all going in the stand. The tank is being built by a firm called Merchandising Partners ( odd name for what they do ) located in Bloomfield.

Been researching skimmers all morning, I think I'm going with the ATB 840 v1.5 in white from Reef Specialty.

mine is 72x30x24 and is 220 so you have more than that is it 36" wide or tall

36" wide, not deep. I don't want deep. My other tank is deep and I can't get to the bottom anymore with some of the coral growth :)

I'll be using the AIs on the new tank. If you look at the picture again, you can see the ceiling mounts already in place. Also, that shelf and socket high up on the wall are there for plugging in the AIs and placing the power supply blocks up high and out of sight. There is also a blank receptacle in place for the control cord for the AI. I didn't want to see the cords running up the wall so did a little pre-work to get them into the wall.

I plan to have the AIs high enough that they should spread to the 36" width. I hung them there as a test run and was getting some good spread. However, if I miss the outer 6" or so of width, I'd be ok with that because I don't want the corals growing to the sides of the tank anyway ( another thing i don't like about my current tank ).

Oh, and yes, its on a concrete floor. If it falls through that, I have bigger problems :)

Sweet! I always said someday I'm going to build a house around my dream fishtank. Looks like it's going to be in a perfect place. Right by the front door.
